Such drama
« on: December 18, 2022, 05:30:37 PM »
I overheard, a girl say her two roommates, weren’t getting along… one of them got mad, and destroyed some of the other girl clothes.  I didn’t get to overhear if they had a Catfight or not.

It got me too thinking, I bet cat fights happen often on college campuses, two strangers forced too share the same space personalities clash.

I was wondering, if any of you guys have heard  about Catfights between roommates on campus?.

This probably isn't 100% what you were hoping for, but:

A major source of roommate drama in the early 1980s was the monthly room phone bill.  There weren't any cellphones back then, certainly nothing resembling today's iPhone, so we were all at the mercy of "land lines".  On top of that, AT&T was still a monopoly, so the monthly long distance phone bill was EXPENSIVE.  $500-$750 per month was completely possible.  There was one land line per room, so settling up the bill was completely on the honor system.  Major drama could erupt (and did) if there were unrecognized calls to unrecognized numbers, and then the finger-pointing would start about whose room-guest that weekend called which number.  Many friendships fell apart over disputed phone calls.

Here's a juicy story of a sorority catfight. They weren't actually roommates but sorority sisters living in the same house.

What made it worthy of coverage by a national news network is that one of the "ladies" in question was Kristen Saban. She is the daughter of probably the greatest college football coach in history and he just happened to be the coach at that very university. He is also the highest paid public employee in the state and possibly the whole country at well over $10,000,000 per year not counting bonuses.

There's conflicting stories about what really happened that night with Saban's daughter. The lawsuit was dropped and I believe they made up somewhat. Good to hear for sure.

It would be so sexy to read about and/or watch a catfight happen between roommates, sorority sisters, etc,... but in actual real life (at least in the USA) it doesn't happen as there would be serious ramifications for the women involved. The schools take these things very, very seriously (even if it's not a high profile case like Saban's daughter) and even if the girls are not physically hurt in the altercation, there would be huge ramifications that may affect their future.

I had a few fights back in my college days against some sorority girls, as I belonged to a little sister organization of a fraternity.  The schools didn't discipline us unless something got broken on school grounds or campus security was called to intervene.  There were lots of ways to avoid those things happening.

Ever since the iPhone, if something like this ever happened, some spectator would make a video, it would go viral, and the College President would be in a hardhat and bulldozer by dawn knocking down the frat/sorority house himself.

1981-83 was the Golden Age.  And little sister-sorority sister catfights were the best.

Yeah, we didn't have to worry about cell phone cameras.  This was pre-2007.  But if a smart group wanted to fight without pic/vid hounds exposing the bouts, they could put one of the frat boys (whose also the middle linebacker from the football team) in charge of making sure no pics or videos are being taken.  LoL, exposing some sources and methods here.
