Foreword

In the 80's no one anticipated what would eventually happen to Acapulco in terms of reputation. In the 80's it was THE PLACE to be. The TV industry realized this hot spot and produced some episodes of popular TV shows right there at the Mexican Pacific coast. And as it happened the producers of NBC's hit series „Remington Steele“ and ABC's „The Fall Guy“ coincidentally were on site at the same time, at the same place, at the same bay. Obviously that was a nuisance for everyone. In particular for two women on the cast of the shows who found out their dislike for each other at first glance.

Acapulco (Mexico), 1985 - It was at breakfast in the hotel lobby where Stephanie Zimbalist's eyes laid on Markie Post for the first time ever in person. „What a horrible hairdo!“ Zimbalist thought to herself while filling up a cup of coffee. The „mullet“ was to become one of Markie's signature styles. Certainly Zimbalist was not a fan – neither of the mullet nor of the role Terri Michaels – the role Markie had on the series „The Fall Guy“ with Lee Majors as the main star. Her role was rather small – a side cast. But in Acapulco Post alias Terri Michaels was scheduled to play a main role. As Zimbalist poured some milk into the coffee Markie Post stood at the juice bottles. She glanced over at Zimbalist. „There's that wannabe detective“ she mockingly referred to the actress that played the role of Laura Holt – in the series „Remington Steele“ with the elegant Pierce Brosnan as the male star.

The staring back and forth did not go unnoticed. On several occasions during breakfast both ladies made eye contact. Certainly no friendly eye contact. It was very obvious what each was thinking about the other. No conversation was made however. Even not later when both met again on the rooftoop terrace of the hotel. Sunbathing to get an all over tan was essential for their roles in the TV productions. While laying 10 yards apart from each other the glances back and forth started again. The timing both had seemed to be in sync. After a while of sunbathing Stephanie got up, put a long silk bathing robe over her bikini-clad body and headed for her suite. It was time to prepare for dinner. She noticed steps some distance behind her. She had the sense it would be Markie. And she was right. It turned out Markie's suite was just across the hallway. Coincidence or destiny for what was laying ahead of them? Either way it set up a delicate situation.

At her door while using the keys Stephanie hesitated a moment before she turned on her heels to look after Markie. To her surprise Markie did exactly the same. Now they were standing staring at each other. Feeling caught staring on the one hand but also feeling asured there is legitmate beef between them. Moments went by before one of them finally said a word. „What are you looking at, huh?“ Markie snarled. A feeling like a knot in Stephanie's stomach but she could not hold back to reply in a similar snarky manner „A real silly girl!“ she hissed back while instinctively taking a step forward to underline her point. Markie' s eyes went big. She took a step forward as well. Another step by Stephanie followed as well as one more of Markie. Nose to nose they were standing in the hallway. No one else around at this time of the day. Both ladies in silky bathing robes that covered their bikinis underneath. Standing off in sandals Stephanie and Markie were glaring hard at each other for what seemed to be an eternity.

Love it.  I did always wonder exactly what Markie and her wardrobe people thought they were accomplishing with her rat's nest 'do and hair color.
