Sweet Release
A little girl died today
Did you see her face?
The gun pressed against her chin,
She could not find a solution to the
Pain within,
All her life, she was told who she should be
Chastised by every snobby girly girl bully
And her talents, she just couldn’t see
Through broken glasses and blackened eyes
Please find the heart to survive
Don’t die a lie
Live to be more than a society-imposed stereotype
She can’t hear my words over the laughter
Sweet release is all she’s after,
And now,
She’s going to be free,
A little girl only nineteen,
Lost herself in the insults of
Bullying fiends
Her mother cursed her for being gay
The girls would jump her every day
She’d go hide, cry, and wish she had died
After every evening of the beating and loss of pride
Her blood would hit the grass in crimson rain
She could see no end to her pain
Her name is yours and mine
She is our child, but to help her, we often decline
We see her sad smile and assume she’s fine
Say it’s just to tougher her up
We ignore all the obvious signs
And now,
She’s going to be free,
Maybe
What she needs to do is turn that gun on you
Maybe
What she needs to do is find hope anew
Maybe
What she’s going through will come back on you
Maybe
What she needs to do is gain what she is due
Find a sane solution and begin
To start a revolution within
Earn her confidence
And just fight to be free
A little girl became a woman on a field today
Did you see her face?
It was immersed in rage,
She beat her girly girl tormentors black and blue
She lived to give them a dose
Of what they’d put her through
She knew she could take their pain
Their blood hit the grass in a crimson rain
But her fists made her whole again
She lost a lot of fights, but won the one for her life
And now, she’ll never be the same
Because she is free,
A little girl died today, but a woman would rise
No more thoughts of suicide
And in her heart would be where hope would reside
A girly girl bully with a Gucci purse cried
Beaten until the coward came out from inside
She turned and ran away
And lived to fight not another day
A fighter born found another way
Not suicide, but to make them pay
With her fists and her rage
Forget the past and live for today
And who cares about you being gay
It’s 2011 anyway
And I believe you’ll be okay
No one will forget how you beat them all that day
Don’t let the rage take your sanity away
Put your mind at ease, have this sweet release
Build your body to its peak physical and mental health
And if no one cares, care for yourself…
This is less of a fight story and more of a public service announcement. Too many times lately, I have read about some kid who killed himself or herself because of bullying. I could’ve been one of these kids and I do what I can as a teacher and as a counselor to help lessen these acts, but people who work in similar professions obviously cannot help everyone. I hope that a message is passed on to stop the bullying and to teach people to direct their rage and anger towards worthy pursuits, like making our world a better place for everyone. That would truly be a sweet release for all of us, but it’s such a long way from happening. And for those who bully, whether in the real world or online or in any aspect of reality… remember, that person you’re bullying may become the next CEO or the next serial killer, but he or she will always remember you because you got in the way. Live for peace, always.
