The Angel Chronicles

Prologue

I am a Seraphim, a warrior of God. I know only battle, what I am tasked to do. But after the Great War between the Angels, I became very disillusioned with my purpose. I fought my brothers and sisters, killed many, wounded more than I can remember. All for His glory. But was it? After Lucifer was cast down and the rest of the fallen had been banished, I could not look upon Heaven the same way. Why did it have to happen? So I left. I am Ashael, of the Choir of Seraphim. I decided to live among the people He had created. I left the Heavens and took the form of a young woman. I am not fallen but chose to walk away from the only existence I knew. I saw what free will had brought to the world. Saw Adam and his first woman, Lilith. Saw how she would not be subservient to Adam and that colluded with Samael before Eve was created. She became the mother of demons and even though the Seraphim in me stirred, wanting to take form and destroy her, I stayed only as an observer.

I stayed silent and watching as the great floods came and destroyed the world He had created. I watched as life immerged and new hope was given to Noah and his family. Even though I walked among the creation, I kept myself from it. I did not need food or water or sleep to survive. I searched for answers to why so many of my kind rebelled. I watched the great warrior Samson destroy the Philistines with all the might of an angel.

I walked through a valley near the border of Israel and the Philistines, it was quiet and I thought I had found a place to sit and watch the world He created.

“It has been a long time Ashael”, a low voice came from behind me.

I stood quickly and turned, before I knew what was happening, my Seraphim essence came forth and I stood facing the Arch Angel Michael with flaming sword in hand.

“It has been a long time, Michael”, I said, not dropping my guard, my sword at my side.

“Stand down Seraphim”, He said in a commanding voice. “I mean you no harm. In fact, you are to be a soldier of God once more.”

“I have left that life Michael. I no longer wish to fight my kind again.” My voice was soft but I kept a steel to it.

“Father has seen something in you that none of us have,” Michael said, “He sees hope. Hope for this world to prosper and succeed as He originally wanted.”

Michael sat down on a rock and he changed from the Arch Angel I knew to a human man of middle years.

“You are a great warrior, one who like me has seen too much killing. That is why this task is one that will never end but you may be able to bring those who have strayed closer to him. I saw how you reacted to the creation of Lilith and her fall. She has polluted this world with her spawn and influence, especially over the women. The women she influences bring havoc and evil to this world. That is where you will come in. Your task is to find these women and to bring His justice to them. Not as an Angel but as a woman. You will not be a mortal woman, but when you battle them, you will be. You will fight as one, feel pain and only after you are victorious will you reveal yourself and banish whatever spirt is haunting them. In some cases, there is not one, which means they will need to be ended. Do you understand the gravity of this Ashael?”

I returned to my human form and sat down next to him. “So this would give me purpose? Bring me closer to ending the ones who try to bring down His people?

“Yes, Ashael.” Michael turned toward me with a saddened look upon his face. “There is more treachery than you know. Than even I know. Some of the our brothers and sisters have left Heaven, have gone into a pact with Samael and maybe even Lucifer. You will travel this world, seeking out those women who have wronged God and those living here and will exact His will upon them. Will you do it?”

I thought for a moment, thinking of the wars fought, the Angels slain at my own hands, seeing the evil at Sodom, watching good people killed…. “Yes, Michael, I will do it.”

“Good, seek out the one who betrayed Samson. She is called Delilah. “ With that he was gone.

I saw a small path in the valley with a lone woman on it, saw the clouds merge and form thunderous rain and lightning. I saw in my mind, this woman betray Samson to the Philistines and cut off his hair. Saw her paid by the enemies of Israel and walk off with a sack of gold and new donkey. I brought my garment over my head and walked down the path to meet her. The rain was pouring hard and she was having problems with her animal. She found a cave and sheltered herself from the storm.

As I walked to the cave I pictured in my mind of the way women fought each other. Hair was pulled, garments torn, teeth and nails used to bite and scratch. But what kept playing in my mind was the fight I witnessed between Lilith and Eve. Lilith had returned to the Garden after being banished and caught Eve alone without Adam. Eve knew who Lilith was and knew what she was there for. Eve and Lilith were both naked and attacked each other with abandon. They pulled each other’s hair, rolled back and forth across the ground, grabbed each other’s large breasts, legs locking and unlocking in tangled fury. It only ended with Adam pulling Eve off and Samael coming to take Lilith away. That was where Samael fell from his duty. This was how I saw women in fights and how I would fight the women I was tasked to battle.
