For the longest time I loved to exercise with my mom when I was younger, for the most part I did exercise videos wih her at home but when I was about 15 my mom suggested we take an aerobic boxing class together. Aerobic boxing was new at the time and I thought it would be fun. Mom and I had been going for about a month when one day after class one of the men suggested she do some sparring with other class members. Mom would never turn down a challenge and so she did it. It was a good 7 months and mom had about 10 fights with various members of the class when it was suggested she get into the ring for real!! I was scared to death, wile she had done sparring this was the real thing in the ring no holds bars!! She was hooked up with a trainer from the gym who got her a boxing license and a fight with Kathy “Black Cat” Smith a very experienced boxer with a 8 and 2 record. While mom had been wrestling for a number of years this was completely different and dangerous!!
Mom was put on a vary rigorous training regimen and I was her partner. I would come form school every day to work out with her while she had already been at the gym for a good five hours, before we knew it it was fight night! Mom was a big fan of Everlast ladies boxing gear so everything she had was everlast, we had ordered her pink trunks with white trim, and a white sports bra. We got her into her changing room and got her laid out on the trainers table and began rubbing her down while she did deep berating exercises to focus. Mom got changed into hear gear while I prayed nothing would happen to her. W walked out into the ring and my heart was pounding!! She got a lot of looks because she was the only woman that boxed barefoot. Her opponent Kathy “Black Cat” Smith looked at her as they stood in the center of the ring and said “I’m going to bust you up bad bitch!!” Mom just looked at her and said bring it!! We returned to our corner and I gave her a kiss and said give it your best!!
Round one started with Black Cat going after mom with a barge of hooks and upper cuts that sent mom flying across the ring into the ropes as her knees buckled as she tried to stand on her feet, left right mom took punch after punch!! The round just seem to drag on!! Blac cat got mom in a corner and worked on her mid section and mom went face first to the mat! I thought for sure it was over but mom was up by 9 and said, “Is that all you have??” That got the cat angry as she hit mom right in the face with a left jab! The bell rang and round one was over as mom and her bloody body returned to her corner. Mom told me “DON’T STOP THIS FIGHT!! As we both worked on her.
Round Two started and it almost seemed a repeat of round one mom was a punching bag for the black cat. I just could not look while mom had a number of years wrestling and I was used to seeing her take her fair share of losses this was different. I had never seen my mom take punch after punch or see her face all covered in blood!! Mom was in her own corner taking jab after jab to her ribs when I could hear them just cracking!!! The three minutes of touchier was over and how she never fell to the mat I have no idea!! We both worked on her eyes to keep them from swelling shut while to doctor looked her over to see how she was.
Round three started and something happed, Mom started landing some punches and began to scare the black cat. Mom landed a jab that knocked the black cat off her feet and this was amazing mom was fighting back and showing she did belong in the boxing ring!! Mom began to throw everything she could and got the black cat into the corner and begging to throw lefts, rights, upper cuts, jabs and they were all landing. You could hear the black cats trainers yelling “Don’t let that white bitch beat you!!!” Round three ended and she almost knocked black cat to the mat.
While mom was still in bad shape we told her go out and do what you did again and you can win. We could see across the ring that the black cat was now the scaredee cat!!
Round four began and mom showed every one this was her round!!! Mom connected with a left to the face that got the black cat on the ropes. Mom knowing this fight was hers went right to work on the black cats stomach and sent her to the mat! The referee began counting and before we knew it; he counted to 10 and mom had her first win in the ring!!
