I was one of those who loved Apartment Wrestling in the magazines in the day. The cool thing was, you didn't have to hide it from your parents because it was just a wresting magazine.

When I started BaeFight (and even before with the YouTube film we made, Roomate Fight), I wanted to incorporate a sort of Apartment style. At BaeFight, we use all sorts of props, the couches, anything else that may be lying around, and of course the infamous bannister. Our goal is to make our matches look as realistic as possible. I encourage our baes to use the whole room and whatever is in there. Certainly my inspiration is to make those old photographs come to life.

Roomate was a great 3 parter. The girl next door lost, but the mean girl was just too much. One of the best shots is in the third part when she has her arms trapped and beats the crap out of her belly telling her to give up and then the part of ripping her belly button ring out was quite a moment.

Thanks. Yes, both girls were amazing, they really went at it hard. When I saw that piece of furniture, I saw right away how you could trap someone's arms there and really finish them. It was a blast to make. It inspired me to start BaeFight, though like 8 years later, lol.

I started this post to clarify my questions as to the precise meaning of “apartment style wrestling”. I’ve written a few stories using the term, (see Goodnight Snowflake https://www.freecatfights.com/forums/index.php?topic=91569.0) but realized my concept of it was vague. Thanks to the respondents here and the resources they showed me, here are my conclusions.

1. The term “Apartment House Wrestling” was invented in the 1970s by the staff writers  of Sports Review Wrestling, a pretty standard monthly pro wrestling magazine with one glaring exception. The mag featured stories of women in bikinis fighting in high rise apartments, usually in front of wealthy powerful men (of course). The stories were accompanied by photos of models posing in still shots. The feature ran from the 70s to the early 80s and could be found in your corner drug store. To older catfight fans, these magazines are iconic and today are bought and sold as collectibles.

2. The fight style could be considered catfights since they allowed hair pulling, clawing, etc.

3. Over the years, the term and concept of “apartment style wrestling” has been used by many production companies and fiction writers.

4. Today, the term is still used and loosely  refers to an arranged fight, usually in an apartment or a house. The style may be identical to a catfight or a milder catfight with rules. I’m not aware it implies any particular relationship between the fighters.

I was certainly one of those teenagers hiding 'Sports Review Wrestling' under my bed. Dave Moll was my hero, much cooler than Hugh Hefner.
As a kid, I just knew wealthy men on both coast were paying sexy babes to fight for their amusement. There was this whole fantasy of an underground world where these girl fights took place in palatial penthouses with young starlets vying for the attention of the rich and powerful.
Certainly catfight is what they did, but it was much more specific in how the matches were arranged and who was invited to watch.
A wonderful, magical era, even if it was all fabricated.

First one I purchased was January 1977, Gail vs Kayla. I was 15 at the time.   I bought every one going forward. My three favorites were June 1977, December 1977 and February 1978.  Within the magazine there were ads for more erotic and revealing magazines that you could get through the mail. Needless to say it was a chore to make sure I got to the mail before my parents did! I purchased Catfights Galore and Big and Busty Brawlers that way. They featured several porn actresses of the day including Candy Samples, Uschi Digard. Hannah Veeck and others.  Candy Samples was my favorite. I would look at the pictures of her dominating her opponent and imagine her dominating my best friend's mom the same way. Good times!
