This bout is a match between Daisy Ridley (Britain) and Laura Vandervoort (Canada), which is just one of the many amazing matches written by our very talented team, that take place on the PPV and of course, if you enjoy this one, you'll probably like the rest! Daisy Ridley versus Laura Vandervoort
(Words: ABC / Results: Lookout!)
Pre-fight:
In a stark contrast of experience levels, 24-year-old rookie Daisy Ridley undeniably steps up in class to defend her impressive 5-0 record against 31-year-old veteran Laura Vandervoort. Beautiful blonde Vandervoort holds a 32-29-2 record over her 9-year, 63-fight FCBA career. A career that makes young Ridley look like an ambling toddler. Though based on the early days of Daisy’s career here with ABC, she appears to be anything but ambling. Of course, this marks a giant leap of talent between opponents and Vandervoort stands to be a true test for the promising rookie.
“I know she’s been winning,” Vandervoort says, “but, who’s she been beating? Girls outside the top 100? That’s hardly a statement, is it? Look, I’ve fought ‘the next big thing’ a dozen times before. They’re often impressive, but they’re never the definitive in talent. I’ll gladly give Daisy her first taste of how harsh reality in the FCBA can be.”
Daisy stated after her last bout with Katie McGrath that she felt she could take on the world. She certainly seems to be trying in Vandervoort. “I know people that think I’m biting off more than I can chew,” Daisy sighs, “but trust me, I’m ready. I have felt amazing in every bout and I feel like I’m making leaps and bounds in my training. I wouldn’t have agreed to this if I didn’t think I could back it up. I know my perfect record won’t last forever, but it’s served its purpose and put me on the radar of veteran’s like Laura. Now I just need to capitalize. And I KNOW I can.”
Round 1:
Daisy out determined, forcing confidence in an attempt to stand with her opponent early, but Vandervoort isn’t going to be flustered by mere will, and when Ridley steps in with a jab, Laura slips right and blasts an early cross through the rookie’s jawline!
Daisy trying to push back, but Laura takes the aggressive approach as it opens to her, and she ensures the young upstart doesn’t get any bright ideas or confidence boosters early. Solid stifling of will by Vandervoort as she stuffs leather into Daisy’s body and blocks or often evades most of what is thrown back in growing frustration from Ridley.
Vandervoort showing that experience as she controls the first round right through, not causing tremendous damage or issues for Daisy, though giving the youngster virtually nothing to work with through the first full three minutes and certainly testing the youngster’s patience and resistance to frustration.
Round 2:
Laura looks to up the offense a little in the second round, happy with how she left the first, but Daisy is showing some of that raw talent she has and staying light on her feet moreso this go around. Ridley is dodging high shots and stuffing out rib-hunting blows with leather, before cutting back in with the counters, jabbing quick fists into her esteemed opponent’s face, often bouncing the leather off full lips and snapping Laura’s head backwards, blonde hair whipping tellingly.
All of a sudden it’s Vandervoort on the back foot and Daisy isn’t going to be asked twice. She leaps in with leather popping, Laura’s gorgeous face taking rapid jab after jab as Ridley proves to have some tremendous pace in those arms. Laura’s footwork not able to outshine Daisy’s, and she is forced to turtle towards the end of the round, just waiting it out for a chance to regather herself.
Vandervoort takes a seat after two with stinging rosy cheeks and a little blood on the top lip, while Ridley heads to her corner with some serious pep, glistening with sweat from the workout of speedbagging the blonde’s face for most of a round.
Round 3:
Vandervoot showing a new-found respect for her young opponent as we start the third, and she is a little more cautious about open offence. Daisy meanwhile seems to be taking the ‘nothing to lose’ approach and just going for it against the superstar.
Daisy showing that wicked pace and agility again, shifting left to right, popping quick jabs to keep Laura guessing, only to rock a glove from seemingly nowhere into the blonde’s chiselled torso. Laura bobbing as she takes pot shots from the brunette, her abs soon a shade of red similar to her face. Daisy just working over every inch of her growingly frustrated opponent, and soon Laura breaks and unleashes a wild right that bangs into Daisy’s temple. Ridley staggers back a step, but as Vandervoort follows with another big wind up shot, Daisy ducks, slides left and whacks a little leather into ribs before straightening up and replying with a solid left cross that cracks into Laura’s jaw. And now the blonde is staggering sideways!
Daisy pursues, but Laura is experienced at being the defender as well as the aggressor, and she stays light on her feet, shuffling around, refusing to be a standing target. The block is working overtime, but for the most part it is working, and only a few shots pop through now, Laura taking them in stride, though not offering much in the offensive department.
Daisy looking cool, calm and collected as she takes a seat after the third, clearly happy to be in this much control against the battle-worn blonde. Laura looks a little frustrated, but also doggedly determined to fight her way back into this. Thus far a tremendous battle between wiley experience and raw talent.
Round 4:
Vandervoort has had enough of playing cat and mouse now, and she wades straight into Daisy, absorbing one jab on her guard and another on her cheek, to slam a straight right between Daisy’s gloves, banging leather into her nose. Ridley bleats and shuffles back, only to have Laura follow and bang another high, which is blocked, then a left hook low into ribs, which gets a wince from Daisy as she bends into the leather. Daisy tries to jab back, but the Vandervoort guard is working appropriately and the reply is a crisp overhand right that bangs off temple and has Ridley reeling.
As Laura advances, Daisy swings back with a heavy right, but Vandervoort ducks coolly and rises again with a pounding uppercut that slaughters Daisy’s chin and flops her back against the ropes. Daisy somehow regains her footing even as Laura whacks leather into cute face, and Ridley is being peppered, but still shuffling and retaining her upright position. It almost goes awry for young Daisy when Laura stuffs an underhook into abs and then a cracking left cross through jawline, but still the young starlet refuses to go down.
By the end of the round, Ridley’s cheek is swollen, face and body bruised, but she is still standing, and that is accomplishment in itself for the rookie against such a deadly and experienced, hard-hitting opponent.
Round 5:
Daisy looking a little tentative, perhaps intimidated now at witnessing first-hand the power and expertise of her veteran opponent. She seems to be more concerned throughout the fifth with not being hit rather than trying to bang up Laura, and it’s a strategy that ironically only invites more aggressive peppering from Vandervoort.
Laura starts with head, but Daisy seems to be intent on avoiding the direct KO, turtling a little, though also moving deftly, and the clever blonde decides to whack some leather against fit midsection, stinging those lovely British abs. Daisy grunting through the pain in her abs and ribs as Laura bangs away, occasionally popping out a jab to cheek and chin to keep the blonde guessing, but it is advantage Laura, who seems to be controlling things now. Vandervoort even popping a couple of cheeky straights to Ridley’s modest bust, aiming to wear the starlet down mentally and physically.
As the fifth ends, Daisy is huffing to her seat, looking a little concerned and contemplative, while Laura is strutting slightly, full of confidence and determination.
Round 6:
Laura knows what needs doing and she rushes the second-guessing Daisy early in the sixth, dropping a left hook a little low, getting a yelp from her opponent and causing those protective mitts to drop enough for her to take pretty British face. Laura slams leather in hard, ensuring she makes the most of Daisy’s open head, soon earning a bloodied nose and mouth, and even a lumpy bruised left cheek.
Daisy is a mess inside the first minute, Laura wailing on her inexperienced prey at will, in complete control. The killer blonde is all smiles as she aims to break Daisy’s resolve, working that face with absolute contempt. Daisy is reeling, clearly struggling as she has little to offer in return, simply taking a battering. She lolls into the ropes and takes a big right cross through gorgeous cheek, opening it up and wobbling her on shaky stems. The crowd is going mental, anticipating the worst for the young brunette, who must be dipping into her reserves of willpower now to still be upright and enduring Vandervoort’s deadly shots.
A big overhand to temple seems to bounce Ridley on her feet like a bop-em’ bag, but still she refuses to drop. Then a wild uppercut blasts under chin, sending Daisy almost horizontal on the ropes, only to see her bounce back up to land on feet. Her eyes are glazy, right even starting to swell shut, but the resolve of this youngster is starting to frustrate the blonde veteran as much as it is impressing cheering fans. A look of serious focus on Laura’s beautiful face as she plants her left glove against Daisy’s chest to steady her against the ropes as she methodically slams the right leather again and again into the middle of her face. Daisy’s nose starting to swell and bleed steadily, and many punters seem to be wondering why the referee hasn’t stepped in, but still Daisy remains upright.
The sixth ends with a frustrated Vandervoort taking her seat glaring at an unsteady Ridley who looks a right mess as she staggers towards the wrong corner at first. A valiant effort from the rookie to push this to seven, but nobody in this audience is expecting her to last much longer against those incredible Vandervoort fists.
Round 7:
The cutman has some serious work to do for Ridley in between rounds, but she is back out, swelling right eye and all. Vandervoort wades in aggressively again, looking to put more strain on Daisy’s face and resolve, smacking a right fist up high and it bangs between the brunette’s eyes and dizzies her. But the response this time from Ridley is not to turtle, and instantly she comes back with a wound-up right that surprises Laura and cracks through her left cheek, racing her off to the side with tremendous impact.
Laura comes back with an overhand, but Daisy miraculously ducks and sends a left hook into midsection, jolting the blonde who has no answer for the responsive combo to tummy, bullying her into a corner. Trapped, Vandervoort tries to swing out at busted Ridley face again, but Daisy blocks hurriedly and steps right into a countering straight right that bursts some blood out of Laura’s nose.
Daisy throws all she has now into pumping away at Vandervoort, surely knowing she can’t allow either this fight to reach decision or Laura the chance to hit her even once more. A desperate Daisy rampages as if fighting for survival, unrelenting as Laura takes heavy leather to her face, struggling to defend as she bruises up brightly, the crowd audibly gasping in shock at this turn of events.
As Laura manages to get the guard happening here and there, Daisy simply finds hooks to work into fit Vandervoort abs, though that impressive form holds up under the heavy duress, a testament to Laura’s fitness. Nevertheless, Vandervoort is trapped in the corner for a lot of the seventh round, struggling to throw much leather in return to Daisy as she takes a desperate amount of offense from the rookie, who is expending some serious energy at a last-ditch effort to salvage this battle.
Round 8:
Both women looking worse for wear now, though Daisy seems to be leaking moreso, that cut under her eye still troubling her. But, she seems to be taking the approach of a good offense is the best defence, determined to hit her beautiful but dangerous opponent first. Laura’s guard collects a couple of shots cleanly, and now Vandervoort’s frustration growing apparent through having Ridley on the ropes but not the mat, as she winds up a haymaker and a half for Daisy’s bruised face.
Ridley lifts the guard quickly, deflecting part of the shot but having some leather rip into her blackened left eye, causing the starlet to wobble shakily, almost tripping over her own feet. With a grin, Laura leaps into a big straight right, hunting temple, but Daisy sways right, narrowly dodging the fist, and twists into a wild haymaker, throwing her entire body through the punch as she launches herself at Laura.
Daisy’s right glove ROCKS against Laura’s jaw, and her eyes flicker instantly! Laura staggers and stumbles, arms coming out wide to try and steady herself as she looks punch drunk. And the wide open blonde takes a WICKED uppercut right through the chin, Daisy lifting Laura straight off her feet! Vandervoort crashes to the mat on her back, her head banging against the canvas and eyes drowsily falling shut as the rookie brings this shocked crowd to their collective feet!!
Laura is barely moaning on the mat, eyes still shut as the ref counts as required and Daisy’s eyes grow wider and wider as she comes to realize what she has done. Vandervoort never stirs, and she is well out. We have a winner. KO8; Daisy Ridley!!
Post-fight:
Daisy looks more shocked than the audience as her corner storms in at the announcement, Jennifer Connelly raising her fighter’s hand as she sways uneasily on exhausted legs. But that grin tells the entire story and young Daisy Ridley is clearly giddy as she accepts the victory over the veteran Vandervoort who arguably controlled the majority of the bout.
“I can’t believe it!” Daisy is shrieking after her triumph. “I feel like I’ve been battered to the end of the Earth and back, but I can’t believe I held on and even put Laura out. It’s incredible. I knew I was in good shape, but really, I’m very proud of myself for this win. I have never felt better. Talk about a confidence booster.”
A shocked Laura Vandervoort joined us after coming to, clearly at a loss as to how it all went so wrong. “I had her. I know I had her. I remember her eyes all but shutting down as I banged her up. I just, I don’t remember anything after that. I don’t know what happened. That girl has a head made of steel. I don’t know how she didn’t drop.”
Nor does the crowd, but this incredible battle has certainly gotten chatter up among punters, all impressed at the skill and resolve shown by both fighters. In the end, a spectacular win for young Daisy Ridley who extends her magical winning record to 6-0, undefeated in the early stages of her career, and now with a massive name to give the streak some serious meaning.
