Interesting long story in "The New Yorker" about wives in China finding out that their husbands are squandering family savings on mistresses (either casual or long-term).  The wives then hire professional "mistress dispellers" to advise the mistress that the relationship will crumble, and/or to otherwise persuade the mistress to go away.

It's called The Third Person, by Jiayang Fan.
