"Her Following"
« on: January 31, 2018, 03:40:31 AM »
I want to set up a little three-part story series that I'm going to be writing in the coming months. For those of you familiar with the TV show "The Following" (which was on from 2013-2015), my series will really piggyback off that show, picking up where the cancelled TV series left off. If you're unfamiliar, no worries, I'll try to ensure all the backstory is there and it stands alone :) If you know the show, you know that it is very dark, following an FBI agent hunting down a serial killer. My series continuation will be similarly dark; with the encounters/fights being lethal in nature. Anyways, I'm looking forward to getting started so here is the character breakdown and a little backstory before Part I.

It had been 3 years since world-renowned serial killer, Joe Carroll, was caught by police and subsequently executed. Carroll grew his fame by garnering a devout following comparable to that of Charles Manson; Followers who hung on his every word and were more than willing to kill for him. Carroll was a brilliant literature teacher, inspiring and manipulating the minds of particularly vulnerable students into joining his cult. His wife, Claire Carroll, had never been on the FBI's radar as a suspect, even going so far as to "help" the police during the manhunt. With her husband gone, Claire finally emerged from the shadows to continue and cement her husband's legacy. There were very few Followers who'd evaded FBI capture, but Claire managed to contact two of Joe's former students to do her bidding - killing one of the women who put her husband behind bars - Emily Weston.

Natalie Zea plays the role of Claire Carroll - wife of serial killer Joe Carroll. Claire is determined to expand the gruesome legacy of her husband by adding FBI Agent Emily Weston to their combined kill count. Rather than getting her fingers dirty if she can help it, she attempts to use two of Joe's former Followers to do her dirty work.

FBI Agent Emily Weston

Stana Katic plays the role of FBI Agent Emily Weston, one of the agents responsible for putting Joe Carroll behind bars and ultimately his execution. While signs of Carroll's Followers start to re-emerge 3 years after his death, she has no idea that Claire Carroll is carefully coordinating their every move in order to get to her.

Mia - Carroll Follower

{alt}

Charlotte McKinney plays the role of Joe & Claire Carroll's most trusted Follower, Mia. She had been alongside Joe for the majority of his kills, even taking a handful of lives herself before finding she had a taste for it. Helplessly loyal to Joe, she wants to see Emily Weston dead at any cost, even if it costs her own life.

Natalie - Carroll Follower

{alt}

Keira Knightley plays the role of Natalie, one of the last remaining pawns of the Carroll clan. Not as highly valued by Claire Carroll as fellow Follower Mia, Natalie gets the first shot at Emily Weston. Claire had three final bodies to throw at the crafty Agent Weston; Natalie, Mia, and finally if all else failed, her own. Unbeknownst to Agent Weston, Claire has used her guile and fading resources to lure Emily into a trap where Natalie would be waiting.

Part 1

It had been nearly two years since anyone at the FBI had received a lead in tracking down the two remaining known Followers of serial killer Joe Carroll, but on the three-year anniversary of his execution, Agent Emily Weston (Stana Katic) finally caught a break. A seemingly indiscriminate 26-second phone call was placed by a burner phone associated with Natalie (Keira Knightley), one of Carroll's former Followers and public enemy number two behind fellow Follower, Mia (Charlotte McKinney). Little did Agent Weston know, but this was a carefully crafted call orchestrated by the new hand pulling the Followers' strings; Claire Carroll (Natalie Zea). Claire had brilliantly played the part of the victim during the nationwide manhunt for her husband and his Followers, even aiding the FBI in order to garner their trust. No one thought for a second that she was still very much devoted to him in his final days. Not only was she aware of his compulsion to kill, but deep down she shared it. Now it was finally time to make Agent Weston pay dearly for putting her husband away; cementing the demented legacy her family name had come to represent.

The gravel crinkled under her tires as Emily carefully rolled up on a seemingly abandoned warehouse in rural New Jersey, just a short drive from her home in New York. The FBI had traced the phone call made from Natalie's burner to the basement of an old manufacturing plant, though with the high volume of fake tips and misdirections they'd received while hunting Joe, you couldn't blame Emily for doubting its validity and going alone. The FBI had underestimated the brilliance of Carroll and his Followers at every turn in the past; there was no way Natalie would be careless enough to make this mistake three years after Carroll's cult disbanded after being in the wind for so long. It had to be a hoax.

With backup a half-hour out and the boarded-up warehouse appearing eerily still, Emily drew her weapon and squeezed through the chain-link fencing surrounding the two-story building. Off duty when she was made aware of the hit on Natalie's burner; Emily was dressed in a skin tight v-neck and black yoga pants that hugged her delicate curves, anxiously digging for a flashlight to cut through the windowless, pitch black darkness. She cautiously descended a staircase to reach the lowest floor of the abandoned building, her heart beginning to thump out of her chest as a faint scuffling echoed from the depths of the basement below. As she hit the landing she blindly stumbled into a pull-string light hanging from the ceiling, tugging the ancient cord and snapping on a single bulb in the center of the basement, dimly illuminating the "empty" room before her. Suddenly there was a rush of air as Natalie burst forth from the darkness, nearly blowing her cover early as she let out a gruff; "GGGUUUHHHHH" as she viciously cracked a wooden 2x4 over Emily's upper back.

"FFFUUUUUGGGHHHKKKK" Emily hoarsely mewled as she was slung face-down against the filthy concrete floor, her gun skidding across the room before clanking off the far wall, disappearing into the void of darkness. Emily immediately twisted to her backside as Natalie hoisted the broken shard of wood over her head, aiming to impale Emily through her slender midsection but striking concrete instead as she rolled out of the way.

"Looks like someone lost a step"; Natalie snickered as Emily stumbled back to her feet opposite her, helplessly scouring the floor for her weapon but finding nothing.

"You really think I'd be stupid enough to lure you out here unintentionally? I thought you knew me better than that, Em". Natalie's thin, toned frame was finally revealed as she stepped into the light; clad in a pair of black leather pants, matching boots, and a sheer white cut-off tank top as she tossed her identity-concealing hoodie to the floor between them.

"No more hiding".

With a furious eruption Natalie recklessly lunged toward a retreating Emily, whipping the serrated edge of the 2x4 toward Emily's bowing belly; just able to slide out of the way before her abdomen was drawn open by the primitive wooden shank. As Natalie recoiled from the miss, Agent Weston crow-hopped forward and slung her elbow into Natalie's hanging jaw, the bony joint viciously snapping her head to the left and sending her tumbling into a workbench near the corner of the room. Bent over the bench at the waist and growing increasingly incensed, Natalie discarded her wooden shank and instead equipped herself with a forearm-sized crowbar, wheeling just in time to see Emily nabbing a screwdriver off the floor.

"I know you're not smart enough to do this on your own; who's pulling the strings? Why come out of hiding how?" Emily venomously questioned, the second half of her barb nearly cut off by a sudden charge from Natalie attempting to club Emily in the side of the head with the deadly steel crowbar. Emily reflexively reached up and caught Natalie's wrist with both hands, stopping the strike of her weaker foe but dropping her screwdriver at their feet before being awkwardly driven back-first into the concrete wall behind her. Emily grit her teeth as she struggled to overpower a possessed Natalie, the two locking in a mortal struggle before Natalie whipped her forehead into Emily's mouth. As Emily hoarsely wailed and recoiled, Natalie mercilessly ripped up a sagging Weston by the shirt and slung her across the room. Emily limply flopped to her stomach in the center of the room, her limbs gracelessly fumbling for traction as Natalie stalked her downed foe. Before Weston could react, Natalie crudely slung the steel pipe into the small of her back, letting out an agonized groan as she was flattened to the concrete, hoarsely mewling as Natalie towered over her, paralyzed by bone-rattling strike. A mouthful of blood poured from between Emily's lips as she pressed to all fours, stealthily scooping up the screwdriver she'd previously fumbled and pinning it to her hip as Natalie circled to her front.

"Claire thought I couldn't do it; looks like that bitch was wrong...." Natalie arrogantly barked, unknowingly revealing exactly who was behind her actions. What would it matter? Emily was as good as dead. Posturing as if she was resigned to her fate, Emily throatily groaned as Natalie pulled her to her knees with a firm tug on her silky auburn locks. A deep rip down the center of Emily's v-neck revealed her pert bosom as she rapidly began to pant in frenzied desperation, her frilly black bra peeking out from between the two shred halves of crimson-stained fabric. With a smug grin, Natalie drew the steel pipe back behind her and attempted to rotate through a decapitating baseball swing, only Emily didn't stay put. As Natalie's swing whooshed past, Emily artfully dipped underneath the crowbar and thrust the screwdriver into Natalie's rib cage.

"GGGGRRRLLLLLLLLLLLL" Natalie gurgled in horror, choking up a mouthful of blood as Emily plunged the blade into soft flesh up to the hilt, twisting and ripping the blade out of Natalie's midsection and allowing her to drunkenly stumble backwards. Natalie's eyes bulged wide as she drifted into the far wall, fumbling the crowbar as her limbs began to quake uncontrollably.

"Don't worry, the others will be joining you shortly. I'll make sure of it" Emily hissed, drawing her forearm across her lips and wiping a streak of blood from her chin.

Emily rose and scooped Natalie up underneath the armpit as she began to sag against the concrete wall, a stream of blood beginning to pool at her feet as Emily tenderly held her upright, her abdomen convulsing as she began to strenuously pant and struggle to draw oxygen. Emily delicately traced Natalie's erect nipple through her sheer top, pausing momentarily before savagely sinking the screwdriver into Natalie's sternum a second time, piercing her diminutive left breast. Natalie's mouth dropped agape as the shank impaled her bosom, the supple flesh mushrooming against the hilt of the blade, awkwardly twitching before sulking to the ground at Emily's feet, eyes vacantly staring into the distance as she fell deathly still. The air was thick and weighted as time seemed to stand still for Emily, only to be snapped out of her trance by the piercing sound of a cell phone ringing from Natalie's jacket, a familiar voice on the other end of the line.

"Expecting someone else, Mia?"
