I have had the pleasure recently of watching several of the newest releases from Suitefights, below are just some general comments.
Sarah vs Lora - This contest was particularly interesting, because as a rule, Sarah Brooke simply steamrollers most of the competition. What makes Sarah Brooke such a good catfighter? It is a combination of things in my opinion. For one thing, she is in excellent physical shape and demonstrates remarkable stamina. Several of her fights she starts out by being tossed around, but eventually her opponents simply become winded and then she overwhelms them. She also clearly has some actual formal skills, she can wrestle and many of her opponents cannot, this allows her to pin them down, frustrate them and wear them down. Finally she is just determined (stubborn). She keeps coming and coming and just holds out longer. While all of her fights are entertaining they are not all competitive, but certainly in Lora she has met a true match. While Lora looks somewhat lighter, she is corded with muscle, has great stamina and some trained skills. I think it was the most challenging match up I have ever seen Sarah in, very interesting.
Aubrey vs Brooke - Some people were disappointed in this contest because a lot of it was fought on their feet. I generally prefer close in struggle as opposed to kicking and punching, so my personal expectations were not high. As it turns out, I found the contest very entertaining. While a lot of it was fought standing, a great deal of that was fought body to body with twisting, wrestling and clutching. When it comes to size, shape, condition they seemed very well matched. I think some people might have been disappointed only because the two women were so polite and professional. It is clear that neither were angry or upset. Both worked to be fight fair. It made for an easy and enjoyable contest to watch but perhaps lacks the hateful intensity some may desire. Which brings us to ...
Vika vs Alexa - While the actual fight is fairly short the intensity is through the roof. I would call Alexa's style (again in my opinion) pure catfighter. She generally wades right in, grabs hair, slaps, kicks, gets them down and gets on top. It is as direct as it is effective. I would say from watching her she has clearly been in a few girl fights. I would call Vika's style more backyard wrestling. It I was placing bets I would have expected Alexa to flatten Vika. As it turns out I was wrong. The fight was intense from the word GO, and it was quite a struggle. It was stopped twice once for injury and once for tempers. There have been a lot of comments floating around, "Alexa just wanted to quit", "Vika cheated", etc. I wasn't there. I don't know any of them but from looking at the clip I would say all those remarks were unfair. So what happened? In a contest with inexperienced fighters, bodies moving around, quick actions, pushing, slapping, twisting, blows will fall where they shouldn't. If you trust the other person is trying to be fair then you accept this as an 'accident'. But in most of these matches the opponents don't know each other well at all. It is easy to read ...missteps... as intentional. Where they accidents or deliberate? I can't say. What it makes for is what many seem to want, an angry, frustrated battle. Of course this means the producer has to stop it and so such contests are brief.
This brings me to the last remark which is the producer can never satisfy everyone. If they fighters are calm and get in a good long contest (Aubrey vs Brooke) then the producer is accused of cooking up something lukewarm. If tempers flare and sparks start to fly then the contest is short (Vika vs Alexa). It is a rare day that you get an intense struggle that goes on for a long time (Jess vs Mira). If you want a firestorm go look for catfights on YouTube, but accept most rarely run more than 1 minute, because that is reality.
I have only glanced at the Emma vs Angel contest but they seem very well matched. A shame there were stomach issues, I would love to see them matched again.
