another from the Michelle archives...

from the recent movie "Larry Crowne" with Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts (my personal favorites)

by ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) - Hold On Tight To Your Dreams.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkekqVPIc2M

For all of us who have been going "thru it" lately.......and especially for my Mom......this is for you :)

Chorus
When you get so down that you can't get up
And you want so much but you're all out of luck
When you're so downhearted and misunderstood
Just over & over & over you could

Soooo....here we go...from their 1981 Album "Time".........Hold On Tight To Your Dreams....its ELO!

Thanks emmett....

My father had the world's biggest rock and roll library.....he burned it all into my brain.....

When i hear old songs in movies and commercials it simply brings back great memories..

if you don't like ELO's "Hold On Tight To Your Dreams".....there's something wrong with you...

I'm only 34....but I appreciate rock and roll of all periods....good music is good music :)

As long as people want to hear it......I'll keep bringing it up :)

Once again we take a trip into the Michelle archives....

Today we have a song that was my late father's favorite....and hence of mine......it was one he would play on the stereo when he would take me sailing on Lake Merced in Sam Francisco when I was growing up every Sunday...

Its by Crosby, Stills and Nash......and its called......"The Southern Cross"......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cBsnopTVmo

its about a lost love......we all can relate....but its amazingly beautiful and holds up well over time

So...from 1982........one oh so close to my heart....from Crosby, Stills and Nash....its...."the Southern Cross".......enjoy

No....I was raised perfectly :)  My childhood was idyllic.....thanks to a wonderful father..

The chorus to "Southern Cross" always gets to me...its my favorite part...

Think about how many times
I have fallen
Spirits are using me
larger voices callin'.
What heaven brought you and me
Cannot be forgotten.
I have been around the world,
Lookin' for that woman/girl,
Who knows love can endure.
And you know it will.
And you know it will.

The hits will just keep on coming as long as people like them :)

One of my absolute favorite artists.  They are that rarity, someone who's catchy and accessible without being correspondingly shallow.  Despite its difficult history, the whole "Daylight Again" album is pretty excellent.  (OK, most of their stuff is, but still.)

Another from the Michelle Archives.......another one hit wonder...

Its by "Nu Shooz"........and its called....."I Can't Wait"........

Its one of those songs you dance to ....my gf Mckenzie and I have been known to sway to this late at night.....just because its fun

Its got a catchy beat with a little goofy almost kazoo sound in the background....but its all about the beat :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_Yx0X-eHn8

So here it is....from 1985......and Nu Shooz......its....."I Can't Wait".......enjoy :)

The opening of the song always gives me chills...

"Wrapped Around Your Finger" is the second UK single from The Police's 1983 album Synchronicity

So here we go...from 1983...its The Police...and Sting........."Wrapped Around Your Finger"

From the Michelle Archives....while I'm talking about Sting......

its from Sting....and its called......"Fortress Around Your Heart"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiPiRKbNCWY

A wonderful song released in 1985  after Sting went out on his own...his "post Police" days....

The song is part of the "Dream of the Blue Turtles" album....

The inspiration for this song was the pain he felt from the failure of his first marriage.  To quote Sting..

"Fortress is about appeasement, about trying to bridge the gaps between individuals. The central image is a minefield that you've laid around this other person to try and protect them. Then you realise that you have to walk back through it. I think it's one of the best choruses I've ever written."

So here we go....from 1985...its Sting....and "Fortress Around Your Heart"......This one's for Lisa :)

I find that I almost always prefer the Police stuff to Sting's solo output.  (Although I do think IF I EVER LOSE MY FAITH IN YOU is pretty excellent.)

Most recent thing I played today was FAR AWAY EYES by the Rolling Stones.
