Another replay from the Michelle Archives....

It's from my favorite singer.....Chris Isaak......and its his 1986 great hit...."Blue Hotel"

Chris Isaak began his career when he signed a contract to Warner Bros. Records in 1984 for his first album, Silvertone.  Two tracks from this album, "Gone Ridin'" and "Livin' for Your Lover", were featured in David Lynch's cult classic Blue Velvet. Isaak's second self-titled album, "Chris Isaak", was photographed by fashion photographer Bruce Weber. Isaak's contract was renewed in 1988 when Warner Bros. moved him to their Reprise Records label

Chris Isaak's best known song is "Wicked Game".  Though released on the 1989 album Heart Shaped World, an instrumental version of the song was later featured in the 1990 David Lynch film Wild at Heart.  Lee Chesnut, an Atlanta radio station music director who was obsessed with Lynch films, began playing the vocal version and it quickly became the station's most-requested song. Chesnut spread the word to other radio stations around the country and the single became a national Top 10 hit in February 1991. The music video for the song was directed by Herb Ritts and was a big MTV and VH1 hit; shot in black and white, it starred Isaak and Danish-Peruvian supermodel Helena Christensen rolling on the beach, embracing and whispering in each other's ears. Another less-seen version of "Wicked Game" is directed by David Lynch and comprises scenes from the film Wild at Heart. "Wicked Game" also featured as the backing music in the 2001 TV advert for the Jaguar X-Type range of cars in the UK. In 1995, Isaak split with longtime guitarist James Calvin Wilsey. That year's Forever Blue album and the accompanying tour featured Hershel Yatovitz on guitar.

"Blue Hotel" is a highly popular song on Isaak's second album album..."Chris Isaak".....and is best known for its wonderful guitar work...featuring Herchel Yatovitz....one of my main "Guitar Heroes".....I learned to play the guitar primarily using "Blue Hotel" and a few others as my learning pieces once I got the basics down.

I have been lucky enough to jam with a few jazz bands at times lately.......usually at the "Birdland Jazz Club" in NYC on Saturday nights....my life long dream :)  Well...not quite...my true lifelong dream is to jam with Chris isaak and the boys and sit by Herchel and play guitar with him...then I can die and go to Heaven....I hope :)

Sooooo!.....here we go!....from 1986......its my man Chris Isaak.......and...."Blue Hotel"......

"Don't Make Me Dream About You"

Don't make me dream about you, don't make me dream about you.
Don't make me dream about you, don't make me dream about you.

I dream in daytime and night time, I dream of love or romance.
It won't be nice if they catch me, But I can live with the chance.
Because I love you, because I want you.
I will win your love for me, yeah I will win your love for me.

Looked so sweet when I meet you, now your acting so bold.
Feels so hot when I kiss you, and now you come on cold.
And I still love you, I still want you.
And I will win your love for me, yeah I will win your love for me.

No, no, no.

Don't make me dream about you, don't make me dream about you.
Don't make me dream about you, don't make me dream about you.

Took a chance when I meet you, I should of known I would loose.
I know it's wrong I should leave you, you make it so hard to choose.
And I still love you, I still want you.
And I will win your love for me, yeah I will win your love for me.

No, no, no.

Don't make me dream about you, don't make me dream about you.
Don't make me dream about you, don't make me dream about you.
Don't make me dream, don't make me dream.

This one is for someone who is very special to me......uppity?.....that's just my business.....and who....:)

From the great Chris Isaak......its......"Speak of the Devil"........one of his top 5 songs in my opinion...

This....and "Don't Make Me Dream About You".....we played at the jazz club last night.....(I LOVE .."Don't Make Me Dream ABout You"...there is NO better song to dance to with someone you love...it is almost my absolute favorite)

"Speak of the Devil" is a single from the Album "Speak of the Devil" by Chris Isaak. It was released in 1998 on Warner Bros. Records.  "Speak of the Devil" is another classic Chris Isaak song in which the rhythm of the song is upbeat and you want to dance to it, yet the lyrics are so sad. This song however also has a lot more guitar work on it along with a great solo. This is one of the few songs where the band really gets a chance to rock out and we get to see how good Rowland Salley and Herchel Yatovitz are on guitar....and trust me...they are the real..."Guitar Heros".  They are my guys!

Sooo here we go....its from 1998......and the great Chris Isaak and the boys......its....."Speak of the Devil"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITnZAs8VbGE&list=PLC138D83D592C8E6E

"Speak Of The Devil"

Speak of the devil.
The devil appears.
Waiting for some one.
Been waiting for years.
And it's alright now.
Yeah I'm alright now.

Watching her walking.
Like watching a flame.
Trying to forget her.
Don't mention her name.
And I'm alright now.
Yeah I'm alright now.

Lonely days without her.
Nights that would not end.
As long as I don't think about her.
I can still pretend.
..it's alright.

Speak of the devil.
The devil appears.
Been waiting for some one.
Lonely for years.
But I'm alright now
Yeah I'm alright now.
..it's alright.
..it's alright.

Speak of the devil.

Also...great music video with "Speak of the Devil".....awesome work by Chris as always...

As for "Speak of the Devil".....I'm dedicating this to........the past and to me :)

And its one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard....its from 1988 and its by Madonna....its......."La Isla Bonita"....

"La Isla Bonita" (English: The Beautiful Island) is a song by American singer-songwriter Madonna and was released as the fifth and final single from her third studio album, "True Blue", on February 25, 1987, by Sire Records. The instrumental version of the song was first offered to Michael Jackson before Madonna both accepted it and wrote the lyrics and melody. "La Isla Bonita" is noted for being the first Madonna song to have a Spanish influence in it, with arrangements of Cuban drums and Spanish guitar, maracas, harmonicas and a mix of synthesized and real drumming. The lyrics of the song tell about a beautiful island and was a tribute to the beauty of the Latin people according to Madonna.

"La Isla Bonita" achieved worldwide popularity, topping charts in countries such as Austria, Canada, France, Germany and Switzerland. It became Madonna's fourth number-one single in the United Kingdom, giving her a record for most number-one singles among female artists. In the United States, it reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

In the accompanying music video, Madonna portrayed two opposite characters – a pious girl and a passionate Latina. The Latin style and the flamenco red dress she wore became a trend later. The song is one of the most performed live songs by Madonna, appearing in five of her world tours including 2008–09's Sticky & Sweet Tour. Madonna has regularly performed the song in its Spanish form, sometimes with tribal or folk songs and remixes to accompany it. The song has been covered by a number of artists including Mexican recording artist Byanka (1988) and French recording artist Alizée for her album Psychédélices (2008).

Como puede ser verdad
Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
Just like I'd never gone, I knew the song
A young girl with eyes like the desert
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

Tropical the island breeze
All of nature, wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring trough my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby

I fell in love with San Pedro
Warm wind carried on the sea, he called to me
Te diso te amo
I prayed that the days would last, they went so fast

Tropical the island breeze
All of nature, wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring trough my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby

I want to be where the sun warms the sky
When it's time for siesta you can watch them go by
Beautiful faces, no cares in this world
Where girl loves a boy and a boy loves a girl

Last night I dreamt of San Pedro
It all seems like yesterday, not far away

Tropical the island breeze
All of nature, wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring trough my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby

Tropical the island breeze
All of nature, wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring trough my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby

Tropical the island breeze
All of nature, wild and free
This is where I long to be
La isla bonita
And when the samba played
The sun would set so high
Ring trough my ears and sting my eyes
Your Spanish lullaby

This is also one of my tango songs......and I love it.....how one can't....well....makes little sense to me :)

So here we go!.....and don't you dare spin that dial!...from 1988.....its Madonna......and the beautiful........"La Isla Bonita"........

This is for all of us who so wish we could be on that beautiful far away island....and here's hoping you make it ...with all my heart...

I pray I do......

Enjoy :)

Its a great song by one of my favorite artists....Rob Thomas.........its from 2005......and its......"Lonely No More"...

Thomas...as you may recall..was formerly the lead singer for the great group.....Matchbox Twenty...

"Lonely No More" was released in February 2005 as the first single from Rob Thomas's debut album, …Something to Be. It became his second big solo hit (after "Smooth", on which he was actually a featured artist) and his biggest solo hit to date. The song peaked inside the Top 10 at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at #11 in the UK.

The single was written by Thomas and produced by Matt Serletic. Although he had guest starred on Santana's "Smooth" years before this song, "Lonely No More" is notable for being the proper solo debut single of Thomas. Unlike the singles he had released in Matchbox Twenty, "Lonely No More" deviates by not containing a rock sound, and instead on focusing on a more pop like feel. Starting over a series of chordless industrial rhythmic beats, Thomas explains to a prospective romantic interest over a Latin beat why he is not exactly comfortable heading into a relationship with her at the moment. Although she seems to know what to say to him, he points out that words are only words. She needs to show him something else, or even swear allegiance to reassure his insecurities. To explain exactly how hurt he has been in previous relationships, Thomas belts, "I don't wanna be lonely no more/I don't wanna have to pay for this/I don't want to know the lover at my door/Is just another heartache on my list". The song was nominated for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 2006 Grammys.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7spBU4Yv8fE

The chorus says it all for me:

I don't wanna be lonely no more
I don't wanna have to pay for this
I don't want to know the lover at my door
Is just another heartache on my list

I don't wanna be angry no more
You know I could never stand for this
So when you tell me that you love me know for sure
I don't want to be lonely anymore

Sooo here we go!....and don't you dare spin that dial!......its Rob Thomas....from 2005....and..."Lonely No More".....

This one's for Mac.....be happy baby :)

Enjoy :)

From the Michelle Archives.....

Something a little different.....its a Spanish song from Ricky Iglesisas......with a contagious beat and a song that simply says......lets dance.....I love it!

its from 1999 ....and its........"Bailamos"

I suspect you've heard it...wondered what it was....who did it?.....

"Bailamos" (meaning 'We Dance') is a Latin pop song from singer Enrique Iglesias, sung in English and Spanish. It was the debut single of Iglesias in the English-language market, and attained immense success, reaching the No. 1 spot in the Billboard Hot 100.

"Bailamos" was written by Paul Barry and Mark Taylor and produced by Barry and Brian Rawling, the same team which wrote and produced Cher's hit "Believe". The track first appeared on a limited edition of his Spanish studio album Cosas del Amor and was released as a single in parts of Latin America and Europe. After attending one of Enrique's concerts in March 1999, Will Smith asked Enrique to contribute to the soundtrack of his upcoming movie Wild Wild West and Bailamos was chosen to appear.   The song quickly became most requested on pop radio in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. Due to the song's popularity, it was released as a single throughout the world. In English, Bailamos means "We Dance" (We Are Dancing), or in this case, "Let's Dance". In the United States, the song was seen as part of a wave of crossover music from Latin American singers and a general increase in interest in Latin music, which was started by Ricky Martin's release "Livin' La Vida Loca". The single reached number one on the US pop charts, making it Iglesias' first chart topper on Billboard's Hot 100. The Latin song "Smooth" by Carlos Santana released at the end of the year was one of the most successful songs in chart history. Its immense success could, to some extent, be credited to "Bailamos"' and other Latin pop songs during the era. The success of "Bailamos" was a breakthrough for Iglesias, which enabled him to sign a multi-album deal with Interscope. The song would go on to appear on his debut English album Enrique, though slightly altered to fit with the sound of the album. The soundtrack version has a different arrangement in mix from the Album Version.

As I love dancing...especially the tango...I simply love this song...and the beat.....its awesome.......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsPrZYlIcpc

Soo here we go!.......and don't you dare touch that dial!.......its from 1999.........from Ricky Iglesias........its....."Bailamos"

For all of us who simply wish we could dance our cares and worries away......then lets do it......this song is for us :)

Enjoy :)

Its a little different but I love it...maybe more dance music than anything although I think the beat is fantastic......and the lyrics are very special to me...in so many ways......

Its from an artist many of you have never heard of.....Armin van Buuren.....its recent....2013....and the song is..."Won't Let You Go"....

Armin van Buuren is a Dutch trance music producer and DJ. He is known for mostly playing progressive trance and uplifting trance. He has won a number of accolades, including DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs fan poll a record of 5 times, including an unprecedented four consecutive years 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and again in 2012.  He is currently the #1 DJ atop DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJ poll. Since 2001, van Buuren has hosted a weekly radio show called A State of Trance, which has 20 million weekly listeners in 26 countries.  This radio show propelled him to superstardom and garnered an intense following of trance fans around the world. His 2008 studio album, Imagine, entered the Dutch album chart at No. 1, a first for a dance music artist in Dutch music history.

On 2 March 2013, Van Buuren announced that his fifth studio album, Intense, was due to be released on 3 May 2013. The first single of the album, "This Is What It Feels Like", featuring Canadian singer-songwriter Trevor Guthrie, released on the 5th of April.  The song above..."Won't Let You Go"...is also a mainstay of this new album.  ”Intense" embraces more genres than any of my other albums, crossing over from progressive and trance to classic, even rock.

From Armin himself: "Being a perfectionist, some of these tracks have taken me months to finish. Incorporating as many real instruments as possible, it includes a live orchestra, as well as the rock band of my brother Eller. It’s been an honour to work with such talented artists, singers and songwriters, they’ve really inspired me. It’s been an ‘intense’ 3 years in the making, but I’m very pleased with the result.”

The lyrics are truly priceless...

"Won't Let You Go"
(featuring Aruna)

In too deep
And overloading
And it’s hard to breathe
When you’re still hoping

Nothing lasts forever
This is all we get
now we’re holding on together
Hanging by a thread

I wont let you go
so don’t look down
I won’t let you go
‘Till we turn it all around
There’s nothing to break my fall
But I won’t stop trying
‘Cause I still believe in God, in love, in you and I
In you and I
I believe in you and I

I wont let you go
so don’t look down
I won’t let you go
‘Till we turn it all around
There’s nothing to break my fall
But I won’t stop trying
‘Cause I still believe in God, in love, in you and I
In you and I
I believe in you and I

Another from the Michelle Archives.....and my very favorite song of all time....that's right.....you've wanted to know....this is it :)

It's from Madonna.....and its called....."Live To Tell"....

"Live to Tell" is a pop ballad by American singer-songwriter Madonna. Originally written by Patrick Leonard for the soundtrack of the film "Fire with Fire", the song was shown to Madonna, who decided to use it for then-husband Sean Penn's film "At Close Range". It was produced by Leonard and Madonna for her third studio album "True Blue", released in mid-1986, later appearing as a remix on the 1990 compilation album "The Immaculate Collection", in its original form on the 1995 ballads compilation album "Something to Remember", and most recently on her third compilation album "Celebration" (again in its original form), released in September 2009.

The song includes instrumentation from guitars, keyboards, drums and a synthesizer, and its lyrics deal with deceit, mistrust and childhood scars. It is also about being strong, which Madonna recalled in an interview that she thought about her relationship with her parents, while writing the lyrics. The music video, directed by James Foley, shows Madonna's first image makeover, featuring her with a cleaner look, shoulder-length wavy golden blond hair, conservative wardrobe and subtle make-up. This toned down blond appearance was again inspired by Marilyn Monroe.

Released as the album's first single in March 1986, the song was a commercial success. It became Madonna's third number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, and her first number-one on the Adult Contemporary chart. It was generally well received by music critics, who frequently referred to it as the best ballad of her career. The song faced controversy when Madonna performed it on her 2006 Confessions Tour wearing a crown of Thorns while hanging on a giant mirrored cross. The performance at Rome's Olympic Stadium was condemned as an act of hostility toward the Roman Catholic Church by religious leaders.

This has been called her greatest ballad song......and the lyrics are priceless....

"Live To Tell"
I have a tale to tell
Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall

A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me

I know where beauty lives
I've seen it once, I know the warmth she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can't take that from me

A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me

The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again?

"If I ran away, I'd never have the strength to go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart
Will it grow cold, the secret that I hide? Will I grow old?
How will they hear, when will they learn, how will they know?"

A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me

The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again?

A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IzAO9A9GjgI

Soooo hee we go.....and don't you dare touch that dial.....Its Madonna......from 1986......its...."Live To Tell"

"If I ran away, I'd never have the strength to go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart
Will it grow cold, the secret that I hide? Will I grow old?
How will they hear?....when will they learn?....how will they know?"

This is for those of us who can never run away.......

Another from the Michelle Archives......a super fun song from a great artist.....Linda Rondstadt

Its from 1976.......and its called....."Poor Poor Pitiful Me"

"Poor Poor Pitiful Me" is a rock song written by Warren Zevon. It is best known as one of Linda Ronstadt's signature hits. It first appeared on Zevon's eponymous 1976 album Warren Zevon with backing vocals by Lindsey Buckingham. It was included on his greatest hits compilations "A Quiet Normal Life" (1986), "I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead" (1996), and "Genius: The Best of Warren Zevon" (2002). Live versions later appeared on 1980’s Stand in the Fire and 1993’s Learning to Flinch. Alternate studio versions were included in the 2008 reissue of Warren Zevon, as well as the posthumous 2007 compilation Preludes: Rare and Unreleased Recordings.

In keeping with Zevon's sardonic lyrical style, the song's verses deal with a failed suicide, domestic abuse, and a brush with sadomasochism. The song appeared first on Zevon's 1976 self-titled solo album. It is reputed to be a friendly swipe at Jackson Browne, whose songs (such as "Here Come Those Tears Again" and "Sleeps Dark and Silent Gate" from The Pretender) could be quite dark.

Above all else it takes advantage of Linda Rondstadt's melodic voice and great range......this was back at her height...its pure fun :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srpwqf2MWAw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cd2_LKoTYKw (Live Version...Rondstadt was HOT!)

So here we go.....its from 1976.....and don't you dare touch that dial....its Linda Rondstadt...and......."Poor Poor Pitiful Me"...

For those of us who are just having one of those days....and we feel so pitiful......here's hoping we can look at ourselves....laugh....and just go kick life in the ass....:)

Enjoy :)

But the train don't run by here no more
Poor, poor pitiful me

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
Oh, these boys won't let me be
Lord, have mercy on me
Woe, woe is me

Well, I met a man out in Hollywood
Now I ain't naming names
Well he really worked me over good
Just like Jesse James

Yes, he really worked me over good
He was a credit to his gender
Put me through some changes, Lord
Sort of like a waring blender

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
Oh, these boys won't let me be
Lord, have mercy on me
Woe woe is me

Well, I met a boy in the Vieux Carres
Down in Yokohama
He picked me up and he threw me down
He said, "Please don't hurt me, mama"

Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor pitiful me
Oh, these boys won't let me be
Lord, have mercy on me
Woe woe is me

Poor, poor, poor me
Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor, poor me
Poor, poor pitiful me
Poor, poor, poor me
Poor, poor pitiful me

Another from the Michelle Archives.....and its a bittersweet one because of the affection I hold for this artist...

It's by the great Linda Ronstadt.....and its her defining song.......called....."Your No Good"

Linda Ronstadt (born July 15, 1946) is simply.....the BEST!   She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, an ALMA Award and numerous United States and internationally certified gold, platinum and multiplatinum albums. She has also earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Golden Globe award.

Ronstadt has collaborated with artists from a diverse spectrum of genres including Billy Eckstine, Frank Zappa, Rosemary Clooney, Flaco Jiménez, Philip Glass, Carla Bley, The Chieftains, Emmylou Harris, Gram Parsons, Dolly Parton, Neil Young, Johnny Cash, and Nelson Riddle. She has lent her voice to over 120 albums.  Christopher Loudon of Jazz Times noted in 2004, Ronstadt is "Blessed with arguably the most sterling set of pipes of her generation ... rarest of rarities—a chameleon who can blend into any background yet remain boldly distinctive ... It's an exceptional gift; one shared by few others."

In total, she has released over 30 studio albums and 15 compilations or greatest hits albums. Ronstadt charted 38 Billboard Hot 100 singles, with 21 reaching the top 40, 10 in the top 10, three at #2 and "You're No Good" at #1. In the UK, her single "Blue Bayou" reached the UK Top 40 and the duet with Aaron Neville, "Don't Know Much", peaked at No. 2 in December 1989.  In addition, she has charted 36 albums, 10 top-10 albums and three #1 albums on the Billboard Pop Album Charts.

It was Linda Ronstadt who'd remake "You're No Good" for her Double Platinum career defining "Heart Like A Wheel" album released in late 1974 by Capitol Records; Ronstadt's version benefited from the contribution of Andrew Gold who provided virtually all the track's instrumentation, and string arrangements by Gregory Rose. Capitol was unsure whether to release "You're No Good" or "When Will I Be Loved" as the lead single off Heart Like a Wheel only deciding to release "You're No Good" a week after the album's release; the track ascended to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated 15 February 1975. ("When Will I Be Loved" would be issued as the follow-up single.)  The success of "You're No Good" set a precedent for Ronstadt's single releases which over the next five years would virtually all be remakes of classic rock and roll songs. (The B-side of "You're No Good": "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still in Love With You)" - originally by Hank Williams - was simultaneously a major C&W hit for Ronstadt at No. 2.) "You're No Good" was also a hit for Linda Ronstadt in Australia (No. 15), the Netherlands (No. 17) and New Zealand (No. 24).

In a 2011 interview with the Arizona Daily Star she said "I am 100 percent retired and I'm not doing anything any more".

I am very profoundly sad to say that as many of us know in December of 2012, Linda was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, which left her unable to sing.  It was announced publicly in August of 2013.  Linda is in my prayers and I hope all of yours....in the world of music.....a world so very important and special to me.....she is an icon......and a true legend

Soooo here we go.....and don't you dare touch that dial!...its from 1974......and the great Linda Ronstadt.....and...."Your No Good"

Thank you Linda.....for all the years :)

Another from the Michelle Archives.....

Its from 2005.....and Daniel Powter....and its......"Bad Day"......

You've heard it.....maybe in commercials...you wanted to hear it all.....well.....here is the whole thing.....

Lately....its been my theme song it would seem :)

Daniel Powter (born February 25, 1971) is a Canadian recording artist. He is best known for his hit song "Bad Day" (2005), which spent five weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. Powter was the only solo artist to register a #1 hit in that year without previously having had another song chart in the Hot 100.

Powter's first single, "Bad Day", was first released in Europe in mid-2005, in advance of his second album, Daniel Powter. Warner Bros. Records submitted the single for commercials, and it was subsequently chosen by Coca-Cola as the theme song for an ad campaign in Europe. The song achieved heavy airplay in most European countries, peaking at number three on the overall European airplay chart. It reached number one on national airplay in Germany, number one on the singles charts in the Republic of Ireland and Italy, number two in the United Kingdom—where it stayed in the top ten for thirteen weeks—and number three in Australia.
In the United States, "Bad Day" was used extensively on the television series American Idol in its fifth season. Powter sang the song live at the end of the final show of that season on May 23, 2006. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, Adult Top 40 and Adult Contemporary charts, making Powter the first solo Canadian male artist to top the Hot 100 since Bryan Adams in 1995 (with "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?"). The song also reached number one in Powter's homeland of Canada.

Serj Tankian's "Jazz-Is-Christ" is a pretty chill album. Jazz purists might take issue with it, but if you happen to enjoy SOAD, as well, I think it's worth the time.

Here's one from the underrated Beach Boys album SURF'S UP, from 1971.  The song is called LONG PROMISED ROAD and was Carl Wilson's first major composition for the group.  Released twice as a single, the song still only barely managed to scrape into the charts, peaking at #89 in the US and not making any European charts at all.  The group at this time were trapped into the unenviable position of having become 'uncool' and having that image cemented by an enormous string of surf/car/girl/beach type hits.  However, even in their earliest days there was a deeper, introspective side to the band that had come to full fruition by thie time this album was issued.  Aside from this single, other excellent tracks from the album include TIL I DIE, FEEL FLOWS and the magnificent SURF'S UP.  They were also among the earliest rock bands to publicly express environmental concerns, as demonstrated here by the opening track DON'T GO NEAR THE WATER.  (I mean, seriously, the freakin' BEACH BOYS telling you to stay away from the water??)

Anyway, this one is about continuing on in the face of adversity, and I kind of suspect it might well have been a significant hit if it had come from an unknown group at the time.  Here's LONG PROMISED ROAD:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmAqpRFGzRQ

LONG PROMISED ROAD

So hard to answer future's riddle
When ahead is seeming so far behind
So hard to laugh a child-like giggle
When the tears start to torture my mind
So hard to shed the life of before
To let my soul automatically soar

But I hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roadblocks stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

Sew up the wounds of evolution
And the now starts to get in my way
So what if life's a revelation
If the mind speaks of only today
So real, the pain growing in my soul
Of climbing up to reality's goal

But I hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roadblocks stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

Long promised road
Trail starts at dawn
Carries on to the season's ending
Long promised road
Flows to the source, gentle force, never ending, never ending

So hard to lift the jeweled sceptre
When the weight turns a smile to a frown
So hard to drink of passion nectar
When the taste of life's holding me down
So hard to plant the seed of reform
To set my sights on defeating the storm

So I hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roadblocks stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

Oh, yeah----

Hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roadblocks stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

Oh, yeah----

Hit hard at the battle that's confronting me, yeah
Knock down all the roadblocks stumbling me
Throw off all the shackles that are binding me down

I'd love to see you
I'd love to see you
[repeat to fade]

Hope you like it!
