Another from the Michelle Archives.......and from one of my favorite artists......Phil Collins.......and his song........"Easy Lover"

"Easy Lover" is a hit song performed by Philip Bailey and Phil Collins (both born in the same year, 1951), and written by Bailey, Collins, and Nathan East. The song appeared on Bailey's solo album Chinese Wall. Collins has performed the song in his live concerts and it appears on his 1990 album Serious Hits... Live!, as well as his 1998 compilation album, ...Hits.

The song was a hit in several countries worldwide. In the US it reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 kept out of the top spot for two weeks by I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner, and in the UK it reached #1, staying there for four weeks. The single sold over a million copies in the United States and has only been certified Gold—not Platinum—since the RIAA requirement for a Platinum single wasn't lowered to 1,000,000 units until 1989. In addition Easy Lover has been certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of over 400,000 in the UK and platinum in Canada by Music Canada.

"Easy Lover" won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Overall Performance in a Video in 1985 and was Grammy nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals in 1986.

The lighthearted video for the song was filmed in London, England and is essentially a music video about the making of a music video.

Collins is one of my all time favs....I could listen to his songs for hours....and this one is soo good.......

"Easy Lover"

She'll get a hold on you believe it
Like no other
Before you know it you'll be on your knees
She's an easy lover
She'll take your heart but you won't feel it
She's like no other
And I'm just trying to make you see

She's the kind of girl you dream of
Dream of keeping hold of
You'd better forget it
You'll never get it
She will play around and leave you
Leave you and deceive you
Better forget it
Oh you'll regret it

No you'll never change her, so leave it, leave it
Get out quick cos seeing is believing
It's the only way
You'll ever know

Easy lover
She'll get a hold on you believe it
Like no other
Before you know it you'll be on your knees
She's an easy lover
She'll take your heart but you won't feel it
She's like no other
And I'm just trying to make you see

You're the one that wants to hold her
Hold her and control her
You'd better forget it
You'll never get it
For she'll say there's no other
Till she finds another
Better forget it
Oh you'll regret it

And don't try to change her, just leave it, leave it
You're not the only one, ooh seeing is believing
It's the only way
You'll ever know, oh

No don't try to change her, just leave it, leave it
You're not the only one, ooh seeing is believing
It's the only way
You'll ever know, oh

She's an easy lover (she's a easy lover)
She'll get a hold on you believe it (get a hold on you)
(She's) like no other
Before you know it you'll be on your knees (you'll be down on your knees)
She's an easy lover
She'll take your heart but you won't feel it (you won't feel it)
She's like no other
And I'm just trying to make you see (trying to make you see)

So don't you dare touch that dial!...its Phil Collins....and....."Easy Lover"........

This is for Mckenzie.......we're back in business baby,.......and I want to wish everyone here a very very Merry Christmas.....and a wonderful New Year......

Make it a great one folks!   Enjoy!!

mmmm Andrea Bocelli! The voice of an angel - and so very humble. Some years ago. at the MTV music awards, as a new-comer, he had just won his third award; and to long and loud applause, he said.."And now, I will try to sing .....".  TRY to sing??!! He is truly an inspiration!!

Another favourite of mine is "Bring Him Home" from the show Les Miserables, sung by the Valjean Quartet [Colm Wilkinson, John Owen Jones, Simon Bowman, and Alfie Boe], who have all played the lead role of Jean Valjean in the show.

This rendition "brought the house down" during the 25th Anniversary concert; and it is on Youtube.

Another from the Michelle Archives.....and one that stirs something deep inside...

Its from Phil Collins and 1980...and its called......"In The Air"

"In the Air Tonight" is a song written in 1979 and recorded in 1980 by English singer Phil Collins and popularized by the hit tv series Miami Vice. It first appeared on Collins' 1981 solo album Face Value. Released as a single in the United Kingdom in January 1981, the song was an instant hit, quickly climbing to #2 on the UK Singles chart. It was also an international hit peaking at #19 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in mid-1981. The track remains one of Collins' best-known hits. The song's music video directed by Stuart Orme received heavy play on MTV when the new cable music video channel launched in August 1981.

The recording is notable for its atmospheric production and macabre theme. Collins wrote the song about the anger he felt after divorcing his first wife, Andrea, in 1979. In a 1997 BBC Radio 2 documentary, the singer revealed that the divorce contributed to his 1979 hiatus from Genesis until the band regrouped in October of that year to record the album Duke.
"In the Air Tonight" remains a popular selection on many classic rock radio stations. It is the song most often associated with Collins's solo career, and he has performed versions of it at many events, most notably at Live Aid, where he played the song on a piano on the same calendar day in both Philadelphia and London.  He also performed the song at The Secret Policeman's Ball, which was his first live performance as a solo artist.

The lyrics of the song take the form of a dark monologue directed towards an unnamed person:

I was there and I saw what you did
Saw it with my own two eyes
So you can wipe off that grin
I know where you've been
It's all been a pack of lies

Musically the song consists of a series of ominous chords played by a Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 over a simple drum machine pattern (the Roland CR-78 Disco-2 pattern, plus some programming); processed electric guitar sounds and vocoded vocals, an effect which is increased on key words to add additional atmosphere. The mood is one of restrained anger until the final chorus when an explosive burst of drums releases the musical tension, and the instrumentation builds to a thundering final chorus.

I love this song so very much.....and its maybe my favorite from Phil Collins.....

So here we go!!...and don't you dare touch that dial!!......its from the great Phil Collins......and its....."In The Air"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkADj0TPrJA

Long ago I dedicated this song to someone so very close to me.....and the feelings are summed in one line from the song....

"I have been waiting for this moment ......for all my life.....Oh Lord..."

I won't give up Mckenzie.....I can't.......have a great Christmas in London......I'll be soon behind you...

Merry Christmas everyone!!!!   Make it magical!

Another from the Michelle Archives.....and one that moves me and stirs something inside me like few do.....

Its from the great Phil Collins.....from 1998......and its........"One More Night"

"One More Night" is the first single in America and second in the UK from Phil Collins' third album, "No Jacket Required".  It has also been released as the eleventh track on the 1998 compilation album, "Hits", as well as the third track on the 2004 compilation album, "Love Songs: A Compilation"... "Old and New". "One More Night" was Phil Collins' second US number-one single, following "Against All Odds", and was his fourth single to reach the top ten in the UK, peaking at number four on the singles chart. It was also his first number one on the adult contemporary chart.

Collins was playing around with his drum machine when he started saying the chorus of the song. He later recalled that "The rest of the song was written very quickly."  Its B-side in the UK was "I Like the Way", while the US received "The Man with the Horn".

The song's music video, directed by Jim Yukich, features Collins playing the piano in a downtown bar. It was filmed at a pub owned by Richard Branson in London (much like the video for Sussudio)"

For a part of the 1990s, the American Red Cross used the song for a public service announcement promoting their emergency shelters.

The song is featured in the opening moments of Martin Scorsese's 1986 film The Color of Money.

After Maroon 5 hit number 1 on the Hot 100 in 2012 with their own unrelated song titled "One More Night", the two songs became one of the rare pairs of songs with the same title to both hit number 1.

I love this song so much......and it ends with a saxophone solo that is so smooth as to not be believed......it can only only be felt.....

Phil Collins - "One More Night"

One more night, one more night
I've been trying, oh so long to let you know
Let you know how I feel
So if I stumble, if I fall, would you help me back
So I can make you see

Please give me one more night
Give me one more night
One more night
'Cause I can't wait forever

Give me just one more night
Ooh, just one more night
Oh, one more night
'Cause I can't wait forever

I've been sitting here so long, wasting time
Just staring at the phone
And I was wondering should I call you
Then I thought, maybe you're not alone

Please give me one more night
Give me one more night
Oh, one more night
'Cause I can't wait forever

Just give me just one more night
one more night
Oh, one more night
'Cause I can't wait forever

Give me one more night
Give me just one more night
Ooh, one more night
'Cause I can't wait forever

Like a river to the sea
I will always be with you
And if you sail away
I will follow you

Give me one more night
Give me just one more night
Oh, one more night
Coz I can't wait forever

I know there'll never be a time
You'll ever feel the same
And I know it's only words

But if you change your mind
You know that I'll be here
And maybe we both can learn

Give me just one more night
Give me just one more night
Ooh, one more night
'Cause I can't wait forever

Give me just one more night
Give me just one more night
Ooh, one more night
'Cause I can't wait forever

So here we go..and don't you dare touch that dial......its the great Phil Collins.....and...."One More Night"

I'm dedicating this song to a long time friend on here....one who no matter what....has always believed in me.....and if I ever needed him....he was always always there for me.....

I hope that friendship is still as important to him as it is to me right now :)

So....for all the years......I want to say thank you Red.....from the bottom of my silly heart :)  You have allowed me to see the guy...without his mask......and that has been an honor I can't describe with words......only music

"I know there'll never be a time
You'll ever feel the same
And I know it's only words"

"But if you change your mind
You know that I'll be here
And maybe we both can learn"

Have a great weekend folks...and try and even make it better than great :)

And try and give each other.....just one more night...

Another from the Michelle Archives.,...a fav song from one of my most favorite artists

Justin Timberlake......"JT"

and its from 2006 and is called........"What Goes Around Comes Around"...

"What Goes Around... Comes Around" is a song recorded by American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake for his second studio album FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006). It was written and produced by Timberlake, Timbaland, and Danja. The song was said by Timberlake to be about betrayal and forgiveness, and was described by some music critics as a "sequel" to his 2002 single "Cry Me a River". The song received generally positive reviews from music critics.

The song was sent to United States radio on January 8, 2007, as the album's third single. It became Timberlake's third consecutive number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Internationally the song was also successful, reaching the top ten in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, and Australia. The song was later certified two-times platinum in Australia, Gold in the United States and gold in New Zealand. The song received positive reviews from music critics. The song won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 50th Grammy Awards, where it also received a nomination for Record of the Year.

The Samuel Bayer-directed music video was released February 7, 2007. Actress Scarlett Johansson plays Timberlake's love interest in the video. The video received the award for Best Direction at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards and was also nominated for Video of the Year.

The song was written and produced by Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, and Nate "Danja" Hills. While in the studio, the three men were just "fooling around" and "freestyling".  When Danja began playing a guitar riff, it caught Timberlake's attention. Timberlake started humming to the melody, and then the lyrics came. Timbaland, who was at his keyboards beside Danja, added drums to the melody. Danja commented that "everything was coming together at the same time".   After coming up with the music, Timberlake never wrote down the lyrics and, in an hour, he was ready to record it. By the time Timberlake was in the vocal booth, the basic track was done, then Timbaland produced a prelude of the song. Timberlake sang the song in a couple of takes and went back line by line to fill up the gaps. During the recording sessions, Timbaland and Danja added everything else, including the basses and strings. Danja compared the process to scoring to a movie, thinking the song was like a horror flick.

"What Goes Around... Comes Around" was pivotal to the creation of FutureSex/LoveSounds. After finishing the production of the song, Timbaland teased Timberlake. Timberlake responded: "Let's do something we would never do. Let's go far left and just see what happens."[3] His answer motivated the collective, and they ended up producing ten songs for the album.

Bring the unofficial President of the JT Fan Club - next to "Mirrors", which came out in 2013, I consider this his best work.  Its a song of lost love...regret...and healing...something we all can relate to.

So here we go....and don't you dare touch that dial!.....from the great Justin Timberlake....JT himself!...its...."What Goes Around Comes Around"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOrnUquxtwA

This can only be dedicated to me as I was fortunate to see JT perform this live in New York at Madison Square Garden in one of the best live concerts I have ever seen...

Another from the Michelle Archives....because I heard it this morning....and remembered what it mean to me..

Its from 1994 and Madonna....and its called......"Take a Bow".....

"Take a Bow" is a song by Madonna from her sixth studio album Bedtime Stories. Released as the second single from Bedtime Stories in December 6, 1994, the song appears on her compilation albums Something to Remember (1995), GHV2 (2001) and Celebration (2009). It was written and produced by Madonna and R&B singer-songwriter Babyface and became her longest-running number-one hit in the United States. It was her first single to reach number-one in the United States after "This Used to Be My Playground" (1992), and it was her last number-one song in the United States in the 1990s.

The music video for "Take a Bow" was directed by Michael Haussman in Ronda and the bullring of Antequera, Spain. The plot sees Madonna as a bullfighter's neglected lover, played by real-life Spanish bullfighter Emilio Muñoz, yearning for his presence. The video won Best Female Video honors at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards. Madonna performed "Take a Bow" live with Babyface at the 1995 American Music Awards and at the 1995 San Remo Festival in Italy.

"Take A Bow"

Take a bow, the night is over
This masquerade is getting older
Light are low, the curtains down
There's no one here
(There's no one here, there's no one in the crowd)
Say your lines but do you feel them
Do you mean what you say when there's no one around (no one around)
Watching you, watching me, one lonely star
(One lonely star you don't know who you are)

[Chorus:]

I've always been in love with you (always with you)
I guess you've always known it's true (you know it's true)
You took my love for granted, why oh why
The show is over, say good-bye

Say good-bye (bye bye), say good-bye

Make them laugh, it comes so easy
When you get to the part
Where you're breaking my heart (breaking my heart)
Hide behind your smile, all the world loves a clown
(Just make 'em smile the whole world loves a clown)
Wish you well, I cannot stay
You deserve an award for the role that you played (role that you played)
No more masquerade, you're one lonely star
(One lonely star and you don't know who you are)

[chorus, repeat]

Say good-bye (bye bye), say good-bye

All the world is a stage (world is a stage)
And everyone has their part (has their part)
But how was I to know which way the story'd go
How was I to know you'd break
(You'd break, you'd break, you'd break)
You'd break my heart

I've always been in love with you
(I've always been in love with you)
Guess you've always known
You took my love for granted, why oh why
The show is over, say good-bye

[chorus]

Say good-bye (bye bye), say good-bye
Say good-bye

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDeiovnCv1o

And so here we go...and don't you dare touch that dial!.....its from 1994 and Madonna.....

.....its......."Take a Bow"....

Its a song that touches my heart....and has special meaning to me.....its simply about......saying good bye....
And how hard saying good by can be...

Have a wonderful weekend everyone.....here is hoping none of you ever has to say......good bye :)

Another from the Michelle Archives....and one of THE greatest of all time.....

Its from Dire Straights....and 1978........and its....."The Sultans of Swing"...

"Sultans of Swing" was the first single release of the British rock band Dire Straits. Although it was first released in 1978, it was its 1979 re-release that caused it to become a hit in both the UK and USA.
The song was first recorded as a demo at Pathway Studios, North London, in July 1977, and quickly acquired a following after it was put on rotation at Radio London. Its popularity soon reached record executives and Dire Straits were offered a contract with Phonogram Records. The song was then re-recorded in early 1978 at Basing Street Studios for the band's debut album Dire Straits. The record company wanted a less-polished rock sound for the radio, so an alternative version was recorded at Pathway Studios in April 1978 and released as the single in some countries including the United Kingdom and Germany.

The song's lyrics were written by Mark Knopfler on a rainy day in a bar in Ipswich. Their inspiration came from his witnessing a mediocre jazz band playing in the corner of a practically deserted pub. At the end of their performance, the lead singer came up to the microphone and announced that they were the "Sultans of Swing."

The music for "Sultans of Swing" was composed by Mark Knopfler on a National Steel guitar in an open tuning, though Knopfler did not think very highly of it at first. As he remembered, "I thought it was dull, but as soon as I bought my first Strat in 1977, the whole thing changed, though the lyrics remained the same. It just came alive as soon as I played it on that ’61 Strat which remained my main guitar for many years and was basically the only thing I played on the first album and the new chord changes just presented themselves and fell into place."

The song was originally released in May of 1978, but it did not chart at the time. Following its re-issue in January 1979, the song entered the American music pop chart. Unusually, the success of this single release came more than six months after the relatively unheralded release of the band's debut album in October 1978. BBC Radio was initially unwilling to play the song due to its high lyrical content but after it became a U.S. hit, their line softened.  The song reached the top 10 in both the UK and the USA, reaching number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and helped drive sales of the album, which also became a hit.

In my opinion..as a guitar player myself......Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits...IS THE greatest guitar player of all time.....this song firmly established him as that.....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jxsnIRpy2E

This is the longer version...performed with the great Eric Clapton....for the Nelson Mandella concert..
For great guitar work...it is untouchable!

So here we go...and don't you dare touch that dial!....its Dire Straits......and...."The Sultans of Swing"...

Enjoy everyone.....have a great weekend

Another from the Michelle Archives.,.....and one of my favorites from the great guitarist......Eric Clapton

Its from 1976....and its....."Cocaine"

"Cocaine" is a song written and recorded by JJ Cale in 1976, and also known as a cover version recorded by Eric Clapton. Allmusic calls the latter "among [Clapton's] most enduringly popular hits" and notes that "even for an artist like Clapton with a huge body of high-quality work, 'Cocaine' ranks among his best."

Glyn Johns, who had previously worked with The Who, Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones, produced the Clapton recording, which was released on the 1977 album Slowhand and as a single in 1980. The live version of "Cocaine", from the Just One Night album recorded in Tokyo, charted on the Billboard Hot 100 as the B-side of "Tulsa Time", which was a No. 30 hit in 1980. "Cocaine" was one of several of Cale's songs recorded by Clapton, including "After Midnight" and "Travelin' Light".

So here we go...and don't you dare touch that dial!....its Eric Clapton....and 1976.......one of my Guitar Heroes.......and......"Cocaine"

Lets hear it for that "dirty cocaine"......have a great weekend every one :)

Another from the Michelle Archives....from one of my favorites...Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler....its from 1985.......

and its.........."Money for Nothing"........

"Money for Nothing" is a single by British rock band Dire Straits, taken from their 1985 album Brothers in Arms. It was one of Dire Straits' most successful singles, peaking at number one for three weeks in the United States, and it also reached number one for three weeks on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart. In the band's native UK, the song peaked at number four. The recording was notable for its controversial lyrics, groundbreaking music video and cameo appearance by Sting singing the song's falsetto introduction and backing chorus, "I want my MTV." The video was also the first to be aired on MTV Europe when the network started on 1 August 1987.

"Money for Nothing" won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1986 at the 28th Grammy Awards.

During the recording of "Money for Nothing", the signature sound of Knopfler's guitar may have been enhanced by a "happy accident" of microphone placement. Knopfler was using his Gibson Les Paul going through a Laney amplifier. While setting up the guitar amplifier microphones in an effort to get the "ZZ Top sound" that Knopfler was after, guitar tech Ron Eve, who was in the control room, heard the "amazing" sound before Dorfsman was finished arranging the mics. "One mic was pointing down at the floor," Dorfsman remembered, "another was not quite on the speaker, another was somewhere else, and it wasn't how I would want to set things up—it was probably just left from the night before, when I'd been preparing things for the next day and had not really finished the setup."  What they heard was exactly what ended up on the record; no additional processing or effects were used during the mix.

While I'm still more a fan maybe of "Sultans of Swing"....this song is awesome and brings out the best in Knopfler's guitar work.  These guys just rock and always will :)
