Another from the Michelle Archives...and one of my favs......its from Eric Clapton....and the MTV Unplugged Series......

and its......"Layla"......

Unplugged is a live album by Eric Clapton released in 1992.  It was recorded live in England for the MTV Unplugged series and includes both the hit single "Tears in Heaven" and a heavily reworked acoustic version of "Layla".  Clapton was accompanied by Mark Knopfler during most of these sessions.
Clapton performed the show in front of a small audience on 16 January 1992 at Bray Film Studios in Windsor, England. In addition to the final album tracks, the performance included early versions of "My Father's Eyes" and "Circus Left Town" along with "Worried Life Blues" and an impromptu version of "Rollin' and Tumblin'".  Clapton played a Martin 000-42 acoustic guitar for much of this performance, and in 2004, the guitar sold for US$791,500 (£434,400) in auction.

Clapton earned six Grammy Awards for the album including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, Best Rock Male Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song.  "Tears in Heaven" earned three of the six awards.  The album reached number one on the Billboard 200, and has been certified Diamond by the RIAA for shipping over 10 million copies in the United States.  In 2000 Q magazine placed Unplugged at number 71 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums. In October 2011, the album was ranked number nine (between Iron Maiden's Fear of the Dark and Stone Temple Pilots' Core) on Guitar World magazine's top ten list of guitar albums of 1992.
Commenting on the popularity of the album in his 2007 autobiography, Clapton wishes the reader to understand its great emotional toll he experienced around that time, and suggests that they visit the grave of his son Conor in Ripley to do so.

So here we go....its from Eric Clapton....with Mark Knopfler.....from 1992.....its MTV's Unplugged Series.....and........"Layla"...

Another from the Michelle Archives....and one of the most beautiful you'll ever hear.....its from Eric Clapton....and its...."Wonderful Tonight".....

This version he plays with Mark Knopfler...but its all Clapton in one of his most signature songs.  This recording was made on Clapton's 25th anniversary tour in September 1988 in San Francisco.

"Wonderful Tonight" is a ballad written by Eric Clapton. It was included on Clapton's 1977 album Slowhand. Clapton wrote the song about Pattie Boyd, and it is mentioned in her autobiographical book Wonderful Tonight: George Harrison, Eric Clapton, and Me. The song was a modest hit upon its release, charting at #16 Billboard Hot 100 and #39 Adult Contemporary in the US and #30 in the UK.

On 7 September 1976, Clapton wrote "Wonderful Tonight" for Boyd while waiting for her to get ready to attend Paul and Linda McCartney's annual Buddy Holly party. Of "Wonderful Tonight", Boyd would say: "For years it tore at me. To have inspired Eric, and George before him, to write such music was so flattering. 'Wonderful Tonight' was the most poignant reminder of all that was good in our relationship, and when things went wrong it was torture to hear it."

In 1988, Clapton appeared in the Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute concert as a guest guitarist for Dire Straits. The group became his backing musicians for a surprise performance of "Wonderful Tonight" during their set.

It was also featured in "The One With the Proposal Part 2" (18 May 2000) in season 6 of the famous TV show Friends. It shows Monica and Chandler dancing to it at the end of the episode after getting engaged.

Clapton and Steve Winwood performed an acoustic version of the song during their 2011 tour in Japan.

So here we go...and don't you dare touch that dial!...its Eric Clapton with Mark Knopfler on guest guitar......and its...."'Wonderful Tonight"

Another from the Michelle Archives.....its from 1988 and the great Eric Clapton...and accompanied by my guitar hero...Mark Knopfler.....its..

"Lay Down Sally".....

Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler performed this live during Clapton's 25th Anniversary Tour in Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, San Francisco, USA - 21st September 1988

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-5J3j6JEtw&list=PLE742AEE979111F1C

"Lay Down Sally" is a song performed by Eric Clapton, and written by Clapton, Marcella Detroit (as Marcy Levy, the dimunitive form of her birth name), and George Terry. It appeared on his November 1977 album Slowhand, and reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is a country blues performed in the style of J. J. Cale and Clapton also attributed other members of his band like Carl Radle of Oklahoma, George Terry, Jamie Oldaker and other members of the band as influencing the song. Clapton explained, "It's as close as I can get, being English, but the band being a Tulsa band, they play like that naturally. You couldn't get them to do an English rock sound, no way. Their idea of a driving beat isn't being loud or anything. It's subtle."

The single was a crossover country music hit, reaching No. 26 in April 1978, Clapton's best showing on that chart.

So don't you dare touch that dial!...its Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler.....doing......"Lay Down Sally"

Seeing these two on stage.....it just doesn't get any better than this!

Another from the Michelle Archives.....its from the great Eric Clapton...accompanied by Mark Knopfler on guitar...and its.....

...."After Midnight".......

Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler performed this live during Claptons 25th Anniversary Tour in Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, San Francisco, USA - 21st September 1988.

"After Midnight" is a rock song written by JJ Cale, which was later successfully covered by Eric Clapton. The laid back boogie feel of "After Midnight" is a prime example of Cale's signature style. Cale had written the song and released a demo version in 1966.
"After Midnight" was also in many ways the catalyst for Cale's own solo recording career. Cale was unaware of Clapton's recording of the song until it became a radio hit in 1970. He recalled to Mojo magazine that when he heard Clapton’s version playing on his radio, “I was dirt poor, not making enough to eat and I wasn’t a young man. I was in my thirties, so I was very happy. It was nice to make some money.”   Cale's friend and producer Audie Ashworth then encouraged him to capitalize on the song's success by recording a full album, Naturally, released in 1972. The single by Cale reached #42 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972.

When Eric Clapton was working with Delaney & Bonnie Bramlett, Delaney Bramlett introduced Eric to the music of J.J. Cale.   "After Midnight" was the first of several J.J. Cale cover songs released by Clapton and appeared on his self-titled debut album. It peaked at #18 in late 1970.  The performers on this version were Clapton on vocals and guitar, Bobby Whitlock on organ and vocals, Jim Gordon on drums, Delaney Bramlett on rhythm guitar, Carl Radle on bass, Leon Russell on piano, Jim Price on trumpet, and Bobby Keys on saxophone.

In 1987, Clapton re-recorded the song for use in a successful Michelob beer commercial, reaching #4 in the Billboard Mainstream Rock airplay chart.  Another live version was released on Live from Madison Square Garden with Steve Winwood on organ.

Another from the Michelle Archives....

Its from Eric Clapton with Mark Knopfler.....its from 1988.....and its......."I Shot The Sheriff".....

One of Clapton's greatest hall of fame hits :)

In this performance...we have the two great hall of Fame guitar players...Clapton and Mark Knopfler, formerly and best known for his time as lead with Dire Straits.

Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler performed this live during Clapton's 25th Anniversary Tour in Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, San Francisco, USA - 21st September 1988.

"I Shot The Sheriff" is a song written by Bob Marley, told from the point of view of a narrator who admits to having killed the local sheriff, and claims to be falsely accused of having killed the deputy sheriff. The narrator also claims to have acted in self-defense when the sheriff tried to shoot him. The song was first released in 1973 on The Wailers' album Burnin'. Marley explained his intention as follows: "I want to say 'I shot the police' but the government would have made a fuss so I said 'I shot the sheriff' instead… but it's the same idea: justice

Clapton recorded a cover version that was included on his 1974 album, 461 Ocean Boulevard. It is the most successful version of the song, peaking at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2003, Clapton's version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame

So here we go....and don't you dare touch that dial!...its Eric Clapton with Mark Knopfler accompanying.....from 1988....

Its...."I Shot The Sheriff"

Another from the Michelle Archives....

Its from 1978 and Gerry Rafferty......and its...."Right Down The Line"....

Gerald "Gerry" Rafferty (16 April 1947 – 4 January 2011) was a Scottish singer-songwriter best known for his solo hits "Baker Street" and "Right Down the Line", and for "Stuck in the Middle with You", done with the band Stealers Wheel.

Rafferty was born into a working-class family in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland. His mother taught him both Irish and Scottish folk songs as a boy; later, he was influenced by the music of The Beatles and Bob Dylan. He joined the folk-pop group The Humblebums in 1969. After they disbanded in 1971, he recorded his first solo album, Can I Have My Money Back? Rafferty and Joe Egan formed the group Stealers Wheel in 1972, producing several hits, most notably "Stuck in the Middle with You". In 1978, he recorded his second solo album, "City to City", which included "Baker Street", his most popular song, and "Right Down The Line".

"Right Down the Line" reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and spent four non-consecutive weeks at number one on the Easy Listening chart in the U.S., making this the only Rafferty song to ever reach number one on any US chart.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSfOB8ANdWU

The lyrics are priceless in this song.....they are what makes it for me....my favorite part is...

I just wanna say this is my way
Of telling you everything I could never say before
Yeah, this is my way of telling you that everyday
Im loving you so much more

If I should doubt myself if Im losing ground
I wont turn to someone else, theyd only let me down
When I wanted you to share my life, I had no doubt in my mind
And its been you, woman, right down the line

So here we go!...and don't you dare touch that dial.....its Gerry Rafferty.....and....."Right Down The Line"

This is for Harper.....its been 5 months since we really met in Poland......and its been wonderful...

Have a great weekend everybody...make it the best ever :)

Another from the Michelle Archives...and a bit different maybe,,,

Its a concert that occurred in Sept 1997 and was called "Music for Monserrat"...

Music For Montserrat was a concert held on 15 September 1997 at the Royal Albert Hall. Musicians came together to raise funds for the Caribbean island of Montserrat after a major volcanic eruption by the Soufrière Hills volcano earlier that year left the island, including its capital of Plymouth, devastated. The concert starred musicians such as Phil Collins, Ray Cooper, Carl Perkins, Jimmy Buffett, Mark Knopfler, Sting, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Midge Ure, Arrow and many more, all of whom had once recorded at the island's famous AIR Studios. A DVD was released with the most famous songs from the concert, such as Your Song, Layla, Brothers In Arms, Blue Suede Shoes, Yesterday, Hey Jude, and Message In A Bottle.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6D6cw8Ob2sk

The highlight for me as the playing of "Money for Nothing" by Sting, Mark Knopfler, Phil Collins and Eric Clapton

"Money for Nothing" is a single by British rock band Dire Straits, taken from their 1985 album Brothers in Arms. It was one of Dire Straits' most successful singles, peaking at number one for three weeks in the United States, and it also reached number one for three weeks on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart. In the band's native UK, the song peaked at number four. The recording was notable for its controversial lyrics, groundbreaking music video and cameo appearance by Sting singing the song's falsetto introduction and backing chorus, "I want my MTV." The video was also the first to be aired on MTV Europe when the network started on 1 August 1987.

So here we go..and don't you dare touch that dial..its Knopfler and Sting and Clapton and Collins.....and

"Money for Nothing"

It doesn't get much better.....have a great upcoming weekend everyone...enjoy :)
I hope the money is for nothing and the chicks are for free for you :)
