Well what can be said, it is referred to as a catfight for the simple reasons women, scratch, bite, kick, punch and pull hair, so the basic simple answer yes, in almost every case where 2 women are going to fight you will notice that tend to look each other over or up and down, also known as scanning each other, we are both comparing, and looking if the other has any weapons other than natural, you will see women circle or partial circle to feel the area they are in for room and obstacles, even the most spontaneous of a fight will have a moment of yelling, taunting, threats where each female is mentally setting herself and checking out her rival, as for scratching, you will get a lot of replies i am stunned not more already, but some feel or say using hair or nails is cheating or for a kitty fighter, they are foolish, in a street fight there are no rules, you use what you have and maybe at times something you brought or find to win, WIN, WIN, No one wants to get beat up, and especially today world it can mean much much more devastation to have a fight , more women use fists than use to and the "real vids" of street fights you see are dominated controlled by girls boyfriends or gangs and they will stop 2 women mid fight to make them stand up and throw blows over what women doing what comes naturally., As for any woman I fought i been bitten, scratched, punched and my hair torn out and YES did it right back, if you look in my profile those pointy nails are all mine and yes i keep them well tuned , I never leave my home without a doubt coat of acrylic seal and a file and buffing for the day, while it is easy to say it is in case i get in a fight (and yes i will use them), it is also a defense against a mugger, or rapist or what have you, i would not think twice about stabbing them in any attackers face, neck,or other areas to be able to go home to my husband and kids, not trying to sound bad ass or anything it is just what it is, your friend in the pic was lucky, if her rival was more aggressive her eye, nose neck should have been clawed and honestly in a fight , you can't always get your nails deep enough to tear skin deeply, but it is why mine are so maintained if i can turn the tables and break a hold or get a woman to scream enough you bet my claws will break skin with less pressure then a regular set of nails, and i have done it, if your going to enter a fight there is no measure a person can rule out to be the one who stands up after and walks away in the best condition she can, (guys i am sure as well use other means), your friend really should have needed at the very least a bandage from the looks of it the other girl swiped at her or was shoving her face to get her off her, I say that cause instead of 4 red lines which is more normal to see after there are only 2 and they aren't in perfect line, so either your friend was shifting her head or some other factor played in that her rival couldn't fully set her nails in.
