Old movie or tv fights not as good as you remembered
« on: January 25, 2020, 04:41:21 AM »
This probably doesn't apply to many of you, just to us old farts.  But I'd be interested to see if I'm the only one here with memory issues.

Have any of you seen what you remember as a fantastic movie or tv show catfight years ago, but when you see it more recently, it wasn't nearly as good as you had remembered it?  I can think of several movie or tv catfights I remember seeing as a kid or as a teen, and remember them as fantastic, arousing fights.  But in seeing them more recently, they were not nearly as good as memory tells me they were.

A case in point is a movie I happened to see last night on tv, The Man Behind The Gun.  It's a western movie from the early 1950's, and starred Randolph Scott.  A catfight in a cabin ensued during the last 10 minutes or so, and it was ok, but I remember seeing that movie as a kid, and back then I remember it as an amazing fight.

Another example is a western with a catfight, The Return of Jack Slade.  A catfight ensues between two women at a camp.  Again, I remember seeing that movie as a little kid, and I remembered it as a very arousing fight.  But seeing it just a few years ago, the fight was only so-so.

Anyway, if anyone else has experienced this movie catfight memory failure, I'd be interested in knowing if it's just me.  Misery loves company!

I don't think this is "bad memory."  What is great is "comparative" against other similar items available at the time.  These were the best available
back at the time you watched.  But now, the stigma of women fighting has been removed.  Women are the lead fighters in movies and even on
UFC cards.  Women willingly have real life knock down, drag out fights and then put the video of themselves nearly killing each other on YouTube.
Our sexiest porn stars are accepting payment to have relatively vicious cat fights against other female porn stars in the 27th floor suites of the Paris
Hotel in Vegas, overlooking the dancing Bellagio fountains, while awesome industrious men film it in 4K with GoPros from no less than six angles,
and then sell it to us, online.  Comparative to now, those old fight clips suck.  But back then, they were the "bees knees" (which I believe is a term
you old farts understand, according to my grandpa).  They suck because your frame of reference has changed with the advent of more realistic and
access quantitatively to more fight materials.

It's definitely not just you. Developing minds until the age of 23 or 25 are allowed to input their own ideations into a fantasy, and after entering the workforce/parenthood, this effect lessens. When you look at the material again, many years later, the way your brain remembered it, how it was impressed by it is no longer there.

As for the content itself, the Hays Code was a powerful force. This is why Ginger Rogers' catfight from Vivacious Lady is largely left to our imagination since they could only show the aftermath of the hurricane that was their fight destroying the porch.

Hey, the term "bees knees" dates to the 1920's.  We're not THAT old!

Grandpa is 79, so he's not 1920's old either.  You got the point.  LOL.

I want to thank everyone for their input on this issue.

Now I'll get my walker, if I can remember where I put it, take out my teeth and leave them in a glass of water in the bathroom, and make my way to bed.  It's 7:00 p.m. here, way past my bed time.

As long as the plumbing still works appropriately, that's all that matters.

In the days of black and white movies , as in the case then in life,  female fights were a rarity  and any offering was gratefully received.   As a life long catfight fan of that generation any face off, slapped face, cross words or even black looks passed between ladies are a cherrished memory, the least little thing a cause for excitement.  Nowadays I tend to find the types of fight I like, hair pulling, catballing etc, while looking at the first few moments and dismissing those which dont appeal to me.   Wrestling now must be competitive were years ago I would gladly watch two women pretending to battle.
It is perhaps a buyers market.

Funnily enough, fetish offerings are the least capitalistic. It has a 9:1 ratio regarding demand vs supply from "ethical resources" (meaning here women who're both into fighting and willing to do it sexily), yet the supply is much higher as it observes the golden rule of when it comes to guys and sex, only the depth of a wallet matter. One reason why there's more simulated lesbian wrestling than actual lesbians wrestling for other lesbian customers.
