All the Marbles Remake
« on: October 07, 2020, 08:47:10 AM »
Sadly, I still do not believe there is anything in the works or even is thought of for this iconic female wrestling film, but that is the beauty of "what if".

I did a post on this many years ago and it was a huge hit, and since I'm sure we have a bunch of people here now that was not around many years ago when I did this , let's try again.

Let's pretend that due to this dang Covid affecting Hollywood big time in making movies, they start throwing out remakes and "All the Marbles" is on the list and IS going to be redone so it raises these questions

(1) What Changes if any would you like to see from the original keeping in mind it is a women's WRESTLING Film so we don't get an answer like we did before to make it an MMA movie,  it is about a Female Tag Team and there is NO tag team matches in MMA and also Iris & Molly are a team and you can't have 1 without the other, remaking Million Dollar Baby as a MMA movie works, for pro wrestling and tag team wrestling no

(2) What actresses would you like to see as The Dolls and which as The Tigers?

For me, I would love to see a lot of the who cares stuff be left out so an extra match happens between the Dolls and Tigers so you would have the original 1st match where the Dolls upset the Tigers pretty much , like the original, a rematch where the Tigers not only avenge their defeat but DESTROY the Dolls while doing so, but in the remake, a rubber match that sees the Dolls yet again get Slaughtered , this time , whichever Doll did not get pinned to end the previous squash, gets pinned this time and with 2 squashes in a row, Eddie Cisco (The Promoter) wants to get another team to face the Tigers in the Reno match which makes Iris, or Molly to change it up , sleep with him to get the match which is now 2 of 3 falls and in it , The Dolls win the 1st fall as the Tigers since they have destroyed the Dolls the previous two matches slacked off in their training, but the Tigers in fall 2 with their backs to the wall, go total destruction mode on both Dolls and pin both (Both pinned twice in the movie so No Favoritism) and fall 3 is mostly Tigers, but they get cocky of course (ring version of a movie baddies monologue) and it costs them so in the end, you have your happy ending with the Dolls , Iris & Molly as the Ladies Tag Team Champions.

As far as the wrestlers go, at this time for Iris and Molly, don't know at this moment , but I would love it if they were remaking this if they stayed with the spirit of the original , the Iris & Molly characters would come from a pool of wannabees who have to learn to wrestle and compete for the parts of the California Dolls and for the Tigers, maybe not have to compete for it as I feel women like Vivica Fox and Regina King would be perfect Toledo Tigers.

I commented on the post you had a few years ago. My favorite ladies wrestling movie. I know in the times we are in now Hollyweird would never make something like this again.  Love to see remake with more wrestling scenes with several more tag teams, for me there weren't enough match's.

I would like for the new one to be kept in the same era i.e., same one pieces suits with boots for the attire, same smokie areas and large crowds.

For the dolls Sarah Shahi and Tracy Spiridakos, both beautiful and have played tough characters before.  Not sure just yet for the Tigers.

I do recall reading somewhere a long, long time ago that a sequel would have been made if the first movie had made money.  Unfortunately, it didn't.  I remember sitting in a half-empty (I'm being kind) movie theater and thinking this can't be good for the production company.  This was after it had been promoted during a major sporting event - baseball playoffs I think.  Really too bad.  I loved the movie.

From what I can recall, the plan was to have the Dolls travel to Japan.  Apparently, the Japanese fellow shown briefly in the movie was some sort of agent, manager or promoter from Japan.  His only reason for being there was to set up the second movie.   I'm not sure how it would have played out from there.

Personally, I would have liked to have seen some singles matches in the movie.  Maybe after the Dolls lose their championship, Molly and Iris have a falling out and blame each other for the loss.  This leads to an ultimate "loser must retire" match for ............................................. all the marbles...................... ;D

Maybe some enterprising reader here at the FCF would like to write a sequel : The Hollywood Dolls Go To Japan"!

Morgan - not a bad choice.  About 5 inches shorter than Laurene Landon and 10-15 pounds heavier as per an online source.  I would take that as long as the "June" wrestler was roughly the same size.  My two favorites were definitely Iris and Diane.  Wish they had had a singles match in the movie.

Wish there was more of the very first match in the beginning of the movie with the girls in the green suits.

I'd have it take place in the mid 80's (just to keep the one piece swimsuits ;)) and I'd cast as Iris: Alison Brie and Molly: Margot Robbie and Marc Maron as Harry. Yeah I  know the Netflix GLOW connection is strong here but IMO this would be a perfect cast! ;D As for the Toledo tigers I'd cast Meagan Good and Tessa Thompson

I actually wrote a remake of it years ago. At the time I knew someone who had a contact at WWE Films and I was wanting to write a screenplay, so I did. I made it as there was a super popular women's tagteam and they were the biggest thing in the WWE (of course had it got made not by WWE, it would be easy enough to create a fake organization and Vince McMahan character). Anyway, Vince says there is no way he'll let women headline Wrestlemania, but they were just so popular. He tries to find a way to get out and can only come up with having the girls injured.

So he sends then to LA to "do some shopping, make contacts in Hollywood, and do a few local matches." What he doesn't tell them is that the local matches are a set up with real, MMA fighters who are to toy with them for a few matches and finally put them in the hospital at the end.

Anyway, it definatley doesn't follow the original but does include mud wrestling and other callbacks. The finale takes place in a sort of Hell in a Cell. I really like the story and characters I came up with and think it could really have been a great film.

Sounds like a really good and original storyline.

Great topic. I've actually thought a lot about this. Best I have for right now is what I think would've been a good alternative cast for the original. By the way, the original cast was excellent!

Great question. For my script, as I was writing for the WWE (and unfortunately the quasi contact I had there had left before I finished, so it never got sent anywhere) I wanted one veteran and one new, model type-like the WWE used in those days. I envisioned Gail Kim and like Michelle McCool or Taryn Tarrell-I know neither were the typical models as they both had athletic ability but that's sort of how I wrote the characters. For the heel team, it was sort of like Chyna/Nichole Bass and/or some other huge "cage fighter."

Also could not help but think that if they did use Linda and Susan, I wonder if they would really of let Wonder Woman herself be the one who gets pinned by the Tigers and gives herself to Eddie Cisco to get the Reno match or would Susan as Molly have to take the Loss and Bed time activities with Mr. Cisco so Wonder Woman would not lose a little face

Don’t know how they’d improve on the mud wrestling scene, it’s a classic.

I love it when the focus of the scene switches to the fight between the brunette and redhead. They’re getting a little bitchy with each other and tear each other’s tops before giving it to each other some.
